this is the question. I can get a white 2006 e55 amg w 70k miles on her for 25k no warranty or a 2010 e550 4matic loaded up for like 42k certified to 100k? If I choose the e55 I would need to get a cheap wrangler or something for the snow. I drove the double nickel and loved it. Tomorrow I drive the e550 4matic.

If you live in Boston, then I'd get the 4matic. Unless you can get the 55 and a beater like you said. The 55 is a beast when the weather gets cool this time of year.

I drive mine all year (even in the snow) and with a good set of Blizzaks it does fine. The ESP that everyone complains about in the summer is a godsend in the slippery stuff, makes the car a lot easier to drive. Also, switch the transmission mode to C (Comfort) and on gentle acceleration the car will start in 2nd gear.... Very helpful for driving in snowy conditions.
I owned an E500 4MATIC before my E55, and was concerned that the E55 would be a complete disaster in the snow, but it's really not bad at all. The caveat is that you MUST put good snow tires on it. I bought an extra set of wheels to make the swap easy every season change. Still a lot cheaper than buying a second car, and a lot more comfortable and fun than a Jeep.

Ok I just drove the new 2013 e 550 4 matic w 401 HP and 443 torque gets 26 mpg highway and 16 city. Can lease for 769 month w 0 down. Seems like a no brainer. Just increase the boost and she's off

Well if it was a chip like Beemer has to increase boost for a few hundred bucks. It's worth it. If not I agree with you it's not worth it. So far the consensus is that she's fast but doesn't handle so great. He let me take it for weekend so I will drive her down to NYC and see how it is. How any miles on the Kleeman

TTs for the win. I'd def go with the 550 if you get the 2013. Better fuel efficient (somewhat), awd and with a tune you can get around 475whp out of it.

Can't wait for the new TT 4matic 550 to come down in price. That will be a strong contender for a new toy in a few years. I'm really loving the big bad Mercs and I look forward to owning more models in the future.

You guys worry about the salt on the road at all?
When I lived in Toronto the salt ate my cars alive, typically 5year old cars had a fair bit of rot around the wheel wells, rocker panels and the rear 1/4 where the bumper meets the seam (where the tires kick-up the moisture).
