Amazon Cashback.

So I was on the phone with a lady on Amazon and she said if you have Discover or AMEX, Amazon matches the cashback on the amount. I just got Akebonos for "free"
Discover Example: Use Discover card for $10, you will get $10 cashback towards future Amazon Purchases. So it is $1=$1.
AMEX Example: Use Discover card for $10, you will get 1000 points cashback towards future Amazon Purchases. So it is $1=100 points.

If only that were true.....
I could bankrupt Amazon in no time with a promotion like that. Spend $10, get $10 back? Why not spend $1000 and get $1000 back? How about $1,000,000 and get $1,000,000 back?? Everything is FREE!!! Sounds like the way our government operates.

I didn't bother to dig into the fine print, but what it looks like is that the cashback rewards that you earn from Discover (probably 1% of purchases) can be applied directly to Amazon purchases. If you happened to have $10 in "cashback" rewards sitting in your account (the result of $1000 in previous spending) you could apply it to a new purchase.

So its the merchants that are funding our rewards program....so nothing is really free!
