Why does my car do this ? Gas Gauge Float Issue
Every time I park on a slight incline, with engine elevated and rear of car sloping downhill - even just a slight bit - the next time I start the vehicle AT LEAST 1/5 or so tank of gas appears to just be gone. On extreme inclines I have seen a HALF tank less directly upon start.
NO fluids are leaking.
Now if I get on the interstate, no city driving, and baby the car for 5-10 miles it usually goes back up to CLOSE to where it was prior to turning off.
Is this normal, or a problem with the gas tank float, or something else ??
Thanks

What you describe sounds fairly normal.
I had an issue whereby the gauge would read half full even though I knew I could not have had more than 1/4 of a tank. The issue occurred after I had the fuel tank and sending units replaced. Took the dealer two attempts but they eventually fixed the issue by adjusting the sending unit float (at least that's what the paperwork says).

I'm gonna guess its just the shape of the tank and where the float is located inside the tank.
