ESP malfunction... NEED HELP
My 1st MB is turning out to be somewhat of a problematic nightmare. It is a 2004 E55 AMG and the problem THIS TIME is I am now getting a ESP malfunction message, then it reads distronic. If you shut the car off and start it again, the message goes away. The car will drive but as soon as you try to accelerate any harder the just "regular" driving, it wont let you get full power and the messages appears again. When the messages are on, the car drives sluggish and switches thru gears rapidly. I am gonna take it to the shop soon but just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas of what this issue might be.

Try starting the car, and turning the wheel ALL the way to the left, then ALL the way to the right. This is how to calibrate the ESP when the car is reset. Hope this works for you!

Tried it, the issue is still there. Thanks for the suggestion tho. Also, I found out the car is actually going into limp mode when the codes pop up.

I am not sure if a CEL comes on. It just reads ESP malfunction, distronic. Then after a second, it just reads "2 malfunctions". Is there a way to see if there are CEL's without a scanner? No hard pull to one side or another either.

I Found "the" or at least "a" problem. The SC belt slipped off. But now the question is...... why?

Or your pulleys can be going they are plastic and they brake after a while. It's cheap and easy to change

1. SC tensioner pulley
2. Double idler pulley (metal and plastic one)
From what I have seen once the double idler begins to fail it starts throwing the belts off. ASP idler set is a cheap alternative to OEM replacement pulleys.

1. It only threw the SC belt. Would that be consistent with the double idler issue?
2. Is ASP any better or lesser as far as quality vs OEM?

Do you have smaller S/C pulley and tune?
I have a 04 SL55 I have same problem . ESP malfunction visit work shop message shows right after S/C pulley installed and new tune.
The shop installed Pulley can not find why. Car does not have to move to get ESP malfunction message just turn on the car and depress gas pedal then ESP Malfunction messages shows. just like yours turn off the car then it resets itself. Star sysytem shows ESP does not commucate with Engine control unit. Shop thinks it may caused by tune So Contacted Eurocharged but they think it is not caused by Tune so Tomorrow I have an appointment at MB dealer to check it out. It maybe just coinstance but it happened right after the S/C pulley and new tune and I never had this problem before.

No SC pulley but i have a crank pulley and a tune. HOWEVER, mine just threw the belt for some reason ![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
I put the belt back on and drove it a couple miles and everything appears to be kosher. I didnt romp on it too much but I'll give it a good driving here this weekend.

Did you try to Turn the ignition on and press the gas pedal to see if that triggers the ESP malfunction message on.
