CURRENT: CLS550 SOLD: PANAMERA S SOLD: CL63 SOLD:PEWTIFUL E55 "NATASHA"
Thanks all for the comments. Sorry for late reply Sandy really took a toll on NYC and been working like crazy.
Don't get me wrong I love my E55, I really want to keep it and get the pcar but neither will be my Daily, have a vehicle from work. I really want to get back to stick and have always wanted a PCAR from young. I just confused and still shopping around, if I get a crazy deal I may just do it. I have driven both 996 and 996 TT. My bro had a 996 and I loved it. Then a friend had a 996TT and I really loved it, power, handling, etc. Really at a standstill. I'm not concerned with practically because utility/practically vehicle is the GL550. Really if a crazy deal comes I just may pull the trigger, got my eye on one now just need time to work the deal. Again thanks for all comments appreciate it!!!

owned both of these cars:
Had a very RARE 996 2005 TURBO S (sold it 4 months ago). They only made this 996 in 05 and less than 1200 were built. Mine was Faster stock than the 996 with x50 package but as a few others have said it handled so well it was almost boring to drive. i liked the AWD but the exhaust note both stock and modded was less than desired. I still have my modded E55![Stick Out Tongue](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
I will say i owned the P car for a three year period and sold it for more than i bought it for and the p car was so reliable. You can't go wrong either way. The e55 will make a better DD if that's the main concern between the two.

2003 porsche 996 turbo
you say popping $$$ will get you a fast e55. partially true but its 1 off builds. the market for the turbo is proven and set up as packages based on how much hp you want

have to disagree with you here. theres virtually zero aftermarket support for the e55 . the main modders going consistent 10's have 1 off builds that are still being tested for the limits. the 996 turbo platform has a whole host of aftermarket support to get the car as fast as the owner wants it. the slr is a non issue as the op is asking about the e55 vs the 996 turbo.

200 coupes and 396 cabriolets
and less than 250 manual 6spd cabs... so yep pretty rare as car was only built one year and very limited-- hence the great resale

The Porsche is a smaller, faster more reliable vehicle with a far lower total cost of ownership. The ride is not suited for a daily driver. The vehicle dynamics are very different to your heavy front engine MB.

My father has a 996 TT with bolts ons and is a X50 P-Car, there is a major difference between the two.
This is my comparison, the e55 feels alot faster down low, and out the whole, you have a sense of violence taking place when romping on it. I feel that the E55 handling is far inferior to the amount of power the car is making and struggles to keep up. That is what I like though, and really makes you pay attention to what you are doing while sprinting the car out the hole.
Now the P-Car is much more rounded, the suspension and handling keeps up with the power of the car. It corners on rails, and the harder you push it in the twisties, the more it likes it and eats it up. I felt that the delivery of power is much more tame, and you notice the turbo lag. The ride is considerably more harsh and it definitely will drop more panty's than the dated look of the e55.

As for droppin' panties....if you need a car for that, you're doing something wrong. Just saying.

Gosh, I didn't know

Really personal preference. I find the ride very comfortable. The only time I don't drive it to work is on days my wife wants it, then I'm forced to drive the E55.

Both cars are very nice. If you can have both.....DO IT! DO IT! (Ben Stiller Starsky&Hutch voice)
If you can only have one...Get the Porsche and any time you miss your E55, We can swap cars and I'll let you borrow my wagon...DO IT!

Well, if you find a 996 GT2, know you'll have one of only 317 ever brought to the US during its production (2002-2005) .
The GT2 is a great car but it will kill if you if you don't respect it. It is very tail happy. There's a reason why they call it "The Widowmaker"
The turbo is a much better daily-ish car if you had to go for a 996 over the turbo. The GT2 is definitely not a car you'd ever want as a primary vehicle.
And besides, a 996TT can be had for around 40k. The 996 GT2 runs nearly double that, and I'm not sure the OP is looking at that price point.

There is an '04 Speed Yellow GT2 on Rennlist right now with like 4k miles for $98k.
