You need to remove anything on the most ring that is NOT NTG 2.5 (In other words EVERYTHING that is in the car stock. Radio, Audio Gateway (Amp/tuner unit in the trunk) CTEL module, SDAR module (If installed) Lignuatronic module (If installed), CD Changer, Ipod Interface (If installed) Nav Processor/DVD Drive (If installed) Bluetooth Phone interface (If installed) You replace all that with NTG 2.5 headunit (which has Nav, Linguatronic, Bluetooth and DVD Changer built in), Main Amp, Sub Amp, SDAR/HD Radio module, Media Interface (Ipod interface) and a Conversion wiring harness from Comandonline.co.uk
Install takes me 8 hours and I charge $1000
NTG 2.5 headunit- I'm seeing these on ebay for $1400 I know this guy and his stuff works
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-Mercede...978f05&vxp=mtr
NTG 2.5 conversion wiring harness, Comandonline.co.uk $450
http://www.commandonline.co.uk/W211-...on-NTG2.5.html
Main Amp- $1390 http://www.commandonline.co.uk/harmo...or_ntg2.5.html
Sub Amp- $400 - there is one on ebay now
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-2010-20...item58a8978df6
SDAR/HD Radio module- Usually $300
Media Interface (Ipod interface) - $399
http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-2010-20...item3f2cc38f36
then you should get the media interface Plus (Bluetooth music streaming) $300
Bluetooth antenna, am/fm antenna adapter, Linguatronic stalk, microphone extension cable, backup camera and the updated antenna amp in the drivers c-pillar adds another $750 if you want video in motion thats another $250
Then there is a bit of STAR/DAS programming/updating that has to be done (It also updates the data card so the dealer sees a "Factory" install of a NTG 2.5
Yes it's expensive but the sound quality is MUCH better, infact it's what the car should sound like. there is even decent sub-bass. Integration with dash is there and the car looks bone stock. GPS is now address level and if you choose to subscribe you have live traffic.

So 1k you only get for the labor ? I think the parts now are much cheaper since it’s been like 10 years , you can get ntg2.5 for 200$ instead of 1300$ . Let me know
You need a LOT of parts Most of these links are dead since it's been about 9 years since I posted it orginally

I took a look and found no NTG2.5 headunits for $200. Plus you need all the other modules SDAR, Main Amp, Sub Amp, Antenna Amp, Wiring Harness etc etc. all those are running the same as 10 years ago

AMG Pilot is spot on with the advice on stuff that is needed. Labor wise 8 hours is perhaps a little short for anyone that is not familiar with install. There's no way you will find NTG 2.5 for $200 unless it is broken. I have the following for sale myself:
NTG 2.5 headunit - unlocked
NTG 2.5 conversion wiring harness - Kabel Daviko
Main Amp
Sub Amp - Not sure if this works as I used aftermarket sub amp and subwoofer
SDAR/HD Radio module
Media interface Plus (Bluetooth music streaming)
Antenna and GPS cabling
2x MOST fiber splicers to close off the loop for MOST devices you remove
Microphone for Linguatronic and also conversion harness to use the original mirror mic.
I do not have the antenna in the C-pillar as I don't listen much to the radio. Without it you get limited radio channels available.
This is everything you need for a complete installation (minus c-pillar antenna). I pulled this out of my E55 last year but never got around to selling it. I will make a FS thread when I get back to the US with pictures.

If you look at car-part.com there is a lot of w211 09 on unkyards and just found lots of 09 radio unit for 250-450$ max ,i am pretty sure can get as well the other parts that are needed for the job for very cheap. On this website i bought lots of modules for very cheap and had great success. I think the best option is to get aftermarket since now they do it very good or get ntg1 euro and swap it on the us version. I am locate in nyc area

I just summed all parts from your post with prices above and it came out as $4900 just for parts + $1000 labor = $6000.
Ok assuming the prices are correct and if we leave the OEM look vs NON-OEM look besides then please tell me if $6000 is enough to upgrade the whole system with decent aftermarket components including labor?
I'm not a fan of my NTG 1 but what will I get with NTG 2.5 for $6000?
And the second question - if I buy any 2009 MB W211 on junkyard can I source all stuff from it except that harness which is sold Comandonline, right? Or should I be looking for a particular 2009 W211 assuming they may have different packages/options and components?
Thanks in advance!
PS: searching eBay for "NTG2.5" returns lots of offers below $350.
