OEM vs. Aftermarket parts

My CLS55 is getting some items freshened up. Upper ball joints, bushings, tranny and motor mounts. I have a friend who works for Benz that can get parts at cost. His cost price is still much more expensive than aftermarket parts online.

Is there really any difference? Or if there is, would it be enough to justify the price difference?

Thanks.

I try to stick with the MB parts, especially if you can get a deal.

I do my own work and if a part is easy to change I go with aftermarket ( suspension parts fall under this ). Rarely are oem parts worth it imo.

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
Keep in mind a Mercedes is a collection of parts made by others, similar to other makes. Aftermarket provide car manufacturers with many of the parts that are considered OEM. That stated there are those that make parts to a higher spec such as Porsche yet still offer a lesser grade part to the general public. Jobber+ will almost always be less than OEM even with a discount.

Agreed !

I have a compressor air tools are the best thing you can have inside the garage to get work done quick.

Aftermarket parts are just good as good as oem and twice as cheap.
I just ordered end links for my van from eBay(30.00) but they sent the wrong ones. I was pissed and couldn't wait for them to ship me the rights so I went to dealer 110.00 for oem. With my discount as a vendor.

The eBay vendor gave me a full refund which good eBay takes care of the customers
