I double checked MBUSA, and E55 should come with Black Birdseye maple trim on doors, dash, console and shift knob.
I also checked the option, and nothing say about the brown wood trim.

I think I have seen some E55's without the birdeye's maple and with Burlwood. A matching burl wood wheel would look great but some dislike it because it gets slippery when your hands get sweaty.

Hey.......
your the guy that wants to debadge the whole car right? because you want noone to notice you? Well once you debadge it,you got the standard E wood so someone will think your a poser, which will actually attract more attention. The only way to know will be to look at your instrument cluster and the amg/v8 kompressor markings.Swap out the wood brother, get the dark wood and get the wood wheel. It looks awesome and I'm happy with mine.I live in NY too,and I think your comments about not being noticed are silly.Where exactly do you live/work? Im in Brooklyn and I see every 55 there is,plus 600's, ferrari's,porsche, bentley you name it,NY has got it.You have an awesome car, leave it the way it weas meant to be.I struggled between full Lorinser or AMG when I ordered my car,and made a simple choice.Since I ordered the 500,I figured make it unique,so I went with Lorinser. I could have easily went with AMG,but I felt it was posing and an insult to the real 55's.Keep the badges, swap to the black wood, and drive that sum***** till you need new rubber.Good luck on an awesome car.......

You definitely can order burl wood as an option. See many posts back where someone equipped their Tectite Grey with burl wood -- it looked very nice. I think the car looks good with either. In fact, after I saw the Tectite with burl I was kind of wishing that I had ordered it. I go back and forth. I'll be interested to hear if you can, indeed, switch the wood out; I was told that you cannot. In any event, because it is available on the E55, I wouldn't worry about being thought of as a "poser" because you can have burl on that car (and you have proven). And you cares whether someone thinks your a poser or not. Enjoy the car, it looks great. Mine should be here at the end of this week and the wait is killing me.

Thanks guy's, I really appreciate you're posts. I'm leaning towards keeping the burlwood.
I live in Forest Hills, work on the Island and City.
Where exactly do you live/work?

GET THE BLACK WOOD!
Rave E55, have the dealer order the Black Birdseye Maple. After it comes in they may just give it all to you and then you have both and you can upgrade at your leisure. I would correct the mistake. I know that some prefer the Burl Walnut but Black Birdseye and AMG just seem to go together.

I'm one of the folks that ordered burl vs. the birdseye trim. IMO the charcoal/birdseye combo is ok but doesn't look as nice as the burl. I also don't like the aluminum shiftplate and the burl doesn't have that... but to each his own. If it's a mistake switch it out and then sell your trim pieces on Ebay if the dealer will let you keep 'em!

As for appearing to be a poser, 1) most people aren't going to look inside the car, they'll only see the outside; 2) the burl walnut is an option, and in fact with the designo package you can have any number of options on leather and wood colors/types on a true AMG (for a steep price), 3) for the most part the people who will know what all the standard AMG colors are either AMG owners or posers--most others wouldn't have a clue (off the top of your head can you name the standard colors/interior options on, say, an RS6 or a 98 M5?).
The wood wheel looks great, but is really very inappropriate on a sport vehicle. Wood doesn't grip well (either is too grippy or holds moisture from hands or condensation in cold climates), and scratches easily with aggressive driving if you wear a ring or two.
Plus, as noted, I believe you'd have to sacrifice the F1 paddles, which would be a poor move at resale or lease turn-in.
BTW, I really like the burl walnut, though it's not standard AMG.

Since Benz made the mistake I would get them to switch the wood to the black birdseye........in a charcoal interior it look great.
As a bonus have them throw in the wood and leather wheel for the total effect at their cost. For what you spent on the E55 I am amazed the dealer did not do this from the start.
Derek.
