.50 BMG is the round used in the weapon. The nomenclature for the weapon itself is M2 Machine Gun (also known as ma deuce).
At $22K, that is a pretty good price. Replacement cost for Military is around $15,000, so I would think that they would sell close to $30K right now. While a fun weapon to destroy things with, it has too many downfalls for me. First, you can't really appreciate it, until you really shoot it. That would cost the average Joe around $17K (5,000 rounds @ $3.30). Reliability is less than stellar, as it seems to malfunction when needed the most. And last, I cringe every time I see someone "new" to the M2 try to set head space and timing.

If you paid $22k for a used M2HB 50 BMG, you got ripped off. You can get them brand new for around $10k to $15k. EBRWorks can hook you up with one.
Personally, I'll stick to my single shot bolt action 50. I'm much more interested in accuracy than demolition.

Right now, as with most weapons, prices are soaring. If his is a pre-ban, full auto, it will fetch more than $22,000 at a gun show. Heck, I'm selling 30 round Ar-15 magazines at $75 a pop.

From what I understand I'm told I could sell my AR for double what I paid for it right now

You must have some pretty naive buyers... I was just at a gun show last Saturday and the 30 round AR-15 mags were selling all day at $35.

Anyone else of you shooting 50 cal a member of FCSA? It'd be nice to meet some other 50 shooters that are also into the AMGs, especially during competitions.
Also, if there are any NorCal people that like getting together to go out to the range, let me know. My fun guns are my Desert Eagle 50ae handgun and Ferret50 rifle. But I shoot several other calibers as well.
