Distronic will automatically brake the car for you to some degree. This is not the same as distronic plus which will brake the car down to 0 mph.

Got it. Bake equals brake assist. I think my 10 E63 will hit the brakes if I don't if it thinks a collision is imminent. Was curious if a DIY could do it as well.

Your car does slow down if the car ahead slows down, but this level of Distronic won't bring your car to a stop.

Back to Parktronic. Do you have to remove the bumper to replace a front sensor that has been dented by a stone? How much are the sensors?

I had to remove bumper since I was retrofitting … not sure if you absolutely have to remove the bumper. Removing bumper is easy though.

Assuming your car is W211 E55 AMG, part number is 0035428718, seen them as low as $35 new on Ebay. ~$60 from Mercedes

Thanks for the reply. I have a 2012 S550. The part # listed on EBAY is A22115420417 is that correct? $20 made in Mexico, $40 if made in Spain.

Need a VIN number can look it up that way, part numbers can change even mid year … can look it up yourself at epcstartekinfo also but you need to sign up for account.

This is why I always ask for VIN. According to the Mercedes EPC the part numbers are: A2125420018 for what appears to be the centre and A2125420118 for the sides … why are you posting in in E55 forum? ~$23 for Ebay for the first

I didn't do much of any alignment, just tried to make sure the sensor pointed straight ahead. Having an MB Star helps as it can give you distance readings from the object in front. I think Left/Right alignment is more critical than Up/Down since cars in adjacent lanes can influence readings especially on curved roads.

Thank you for your tips. I will try to center it like the defective one. I didn't have MB star or DAS.

I have done this twice now ...
On my E55, the grill came from Ebay. It was a plastic facelift (2007- 2009) grill. You need to have done the facelift conversion to do this. I then added a distronic plastic cover. I was planning on cutting the grill and placing it in the grill, but the one distronic cover that was sent to me was not the correct one so I put it between the plastic grill and the distronic sensor to protect it. Worked like a charm. You can't see that the car has distronic when set up like this.

On my E320 CDI, I bought a used distronic grill from Ebay. Then I painted it black.

I want to retrofit distronic on my GL550 model 2007. I can buy the accessories and can install them. Could you please help what should I do with activating the device on the vehicle?
Thank you.

Haven't been on these forums for a bit ...

For my E55, the grill I used was a regular Matt black facelift grill. It should not have any metal or chrome in it as that may possibly affect the histrionic function. In order to protect the distronic sensor, I bought a distronic plate that just fit in front of the sensor. You can't see it until you open up the hood. It seems to work just fine. The distronic plate I bought from Ebay.de and was fairly inexpensive. I initially bought it to cut my facelift grille and glue it on, but found it was the wrong shape so I fastened it in front of the sensor.

For my CDI, I just got the correct grille ... it was not facelifted and I got the grille from Ebay.

The Distronic plug was ripped off in a accident. I have the replacement plug the goes into the box upfront but have no idea where the 4 wire should be placed in the 8 pin plug. Can anyone take a photo of the plug to show the pattern?
