New Car looking for mod advice with $5K to spend
I am a proud new owner of a 2005 E55 AMG with only 60K miles on the clock. Smoking deal at 17K too I was sold after the last time I went to the track with my blown GTO only running 11.7@118 MPH and I see a stock looking E55 AMG run a 10.9@127 MPH Talked to the guy and he said he only had headers, pulley, tune, HE. Running full weight. I couldnt beleive it. I have always loved these cars but never thought I could afford one. for grins I decided to check pricing online and was very surprised at what I found. So here I am today I want to build my car just like his was. Wish I had his info to talk to him.
updated to match these other 10 second grocery getters
$1000-$2500 Kleeman shorty headers/LT headers
$700-900 185 MM pulley.
$800+ OE tune . I know one guy on here has an OE tune and runs 10.8@130 MPH at Atco and another running 10.88 with their tune
$200 new IC pump
$500 550 injectors
$1000 82 MM TB
$500-$1000 Killer Chiller
$? One step colder plugs
$450 belt wrap kit
Ordered K&N drop ins already
Lastly should I get a CAI or is it a waste of $$ on these cars ?
missing anything ? Whats this stuff cost to install ? I have a local guy who does very well by me.
thank you !

Another big power adder that you missed would be the 82mm TB. I have Eurocharged tune which I love and cant beat the convenience of them being here in Houston locally.
You will need to upgrade HE with and pulley since these cars have such bad heat soak issues.
On the pulley there is the ASP idler kit to look at along with smaller SC clutch pulley and crank pulley, which there is an adjustable one out there (RTR crank pulley) but some people had issues with them falling off and will tell you to stay away.
Last big thing I can think of at the min is a looped fuel rail from TTM or Buckhead and a set of injectors either TTM or Eurocharged. This is important to be safe from the cyl #8 lean issue these cars have.

I would say a 127 mph trap would mean the e55 had a bit more mods than you were told by the owner. Otherwise I am very happy with my evosport stage 2. Car is very strong and drives smoothley.

We can certainly help you out and beat alot of those prices you mentioned. You left out a couple important mods that take very well to these cars too.
Congrats on the purchase, and enjoy her in good health, and we have one DADS trunk tank kit left

Get a stock style (welded or pressed on) 180mm pulley,Split the cooling system and add a Dad's trunk tank. 82mm Throttle body and inlet. Your choice of tuner (i'm partial to Eurocharged myself and great customer service). 550cc injectors. Kleemann headers are the best bang for the buck by far. If your looking to run 10's its not that hard yet not that easy. What was done to you GTO besides a Maggie? I had a GTO that went 11.50's at 118-120 with bolt-ons,T56.3.91's and drag radials. Went 10.07 with a 440 LSx on spray. Car was always breaking something. Broken axle stubs, twisting the splines, ripped the splines out, breaking the CV joint, eating syncro's, ripping 2nd gear teeth off, snapped a viper 30 spline output, broken LSD. I was breaking the G-Force stuff that was "unbreakable". Clutch cars are rough on parts

Welcome - Where are you located? On the East coast, you have Bruce from TTM, they are located in LI. You also have Buckhead, and they are located in GA.
Do a little homework before you just jump in, Bruce can/will steer you in the right direction. Remember you get what you pay for, and $5k is a good start. I agree with the looped fuel rail, and bigger injectors.
Also, if you do the mods in stages, you'll need re-tunes as you go.
Enjoy -

Your going to need drag radials too for sure..Not going to be able to run 10s on street tires.. If you spend your money wisely, $5k should get your pretty close to 10s.. Good luck

I am looking for power upgrades only. The most bang for the buck. I have been doing a bit of research and had a basic idea but would really love some input from some of you guys. Here is what I came up with so far.
$1000 Kleeman shorty headers
$700-900 175-180 MM pulley. any MPS/adjustable systems out there?
Tune ... which one... OE, Euro..Kleeman ...... I know one guy on here has an OE tune and runs 10.8@130 MPH at Atco
$200 Need to check IC pump and or upgrade it.. Advice on the type I should get ?
$500 upgraded Heat exchanger . Does this really help a lot or just a little ? I boosted the hell out of my GTO with a crappy undersized HE and it didnt bother my car a bit. 112 Maggie is known forbad heatsoak too. Seems like a PITA to replace is why I ask.

Headers are a great call. The kleemans make great power.
Go with a 172mm/180mm crank pulley and make sure you have the proper cooling mods to handle the nuclear reactor under the hood. She has a tenancy to get hot really fast and rob power.
Any of the tuners can take care of the tuning for you.
Get an upgraded IC pump (mez or johnson) as well as a heat exchanger. The stock cooling setup is just not ideal for what you want to do and will limit your track day fun quickly. The rear mount tank is also a great idea and will help keep the IAT's under control. The install is not that bad, most diy.
One thing also to remember is when going with a big pulley, headers, and maybe throttle body is you need to upgrade your injectors!
Set some $ aside to get some data logging equipment as well if you can afford it. (as well as do a compression test and make sure she is healthy for the new mods)
We can help you with a package for everything and can recommend a dealer or one of our shops depending on your location.

Anything in the tens puts that car in a unique category. Plan on spending another 17K if you want what he has, just saying. My $.02. Good luck with your mods.

Lots of good info, thank you guys very much. Received quite a few PMs as well.
After driving myself crazy with searches I have changed a few things to my mod list.
180-185 crank pulley (If I want more boost go with a SC upper pulley)
550 injectors
Kleeman headers
new IC pump
Chiller Killer water chiller system which will work a lot better than upgraded HE it seems.
Want to find a local tuner who can do a real dyno tune if possible. I am near South bay in Ca.
Not sure if the 80 or 82 MM TB are worth it. Hard to get good info on these other than everyone has one. No dynos ? Heard a lot of people get surging etc which In wouldnt want. Probably a tuning issue.
unsure on intake systems. Possibly DYI upgrade or waste of time ?

Intake isn't really needed. Several 10 second cars have got there with the stock intake. The 82mm is almost a must I think. You need to let the car breathe up top and the stock TB can't do that.

When do you think that you may want to head up to Sac? I know of a stock looking E55 that could meet up with you ;-)
