Have to remove control arms to replace tranny?

Just just curious, do you have ot take apart the front suspension to swap out a tranny? ie: lower control arms, ball joints, thrust arms/bars?

thanks

E55 w/ goods, Z32 Project underway
You don't have to. Done three transmissions, have not had to touch the control arms. Car was raised to the point where the trans on a 4" high trans jack rolled a tad under everything. Took a little angling and ninja moves, but easy. Steering wheel was turned to allow space between the fender well and rotor.
