thrust arms

Based on the excellent advice I got here, I purchased both front thrust arms for my 05 E55.
The bushings need to be pressed into the arms. Is this done with a vice? or do I need to take it somewhere to get them pressed fit?

If you purchased new arms then they will bring the bushings already installed.

I purchased new arms from the dealer and it did NOT come with the bushings. I bought the arms and bushings separately and had them pressed in by my mechanic. $160 just for labor.

$160 to press two bushing in sounds like a lot.. You can go to Harbor Freight and buy your own press for something close to that price lol

What made you get new thrust arms??? Creaking noise? Vibration? I had creaking in my ds front area going over speed bumps and low speed can hear it . Sprayed some wd40 around the joints bushings and now more creaks. But think I need new wheel bearing did the pull test and slight movement click. .

Did it sharpen up your steering any? I think my front steering input is a little numb, but that prolly has something to do with the Goodyear F1's which I don't care for much. Anyone else got some input on bushings or tie rod end wear/replacement?

I noticed that when braking, the right front would grab last. This was with a clunking noise which was reproducible at traffic lights by letting my foot off the brake slightly and back on.

I asked the advice of the members here and they suggested thrust arms. I took it to a dealer for service and they suggested both arms be done.

By the way....does a fuel filter really cost $800?

Filter is part of the pick up assembly in the tank. All comes as one unit. I think that even includes the fuel pump?

I got them off eBay. Search using w211 and will come up for both tools required to remove ball joints.

I used the HF universal ball joint press. It is bulkier, but got the job done. I did need to remove the speed sensor (held in by one 10mm bolt) to make enough room for the tool sit flush.

Don't quote me on this because I did this about a year ago, iirc it was size 14 E-torx.

TRemendous difference. Steering and braking is much tighter.

I was getting a shake in the wheel upon braking like the rotor is warped. Now that is gone as well.

Took an hour once I had the right tools ...size 18 torx socket and size 21 wrench.
