MB E55 W211 Vibrate/shakes
Hey!
I got a problem with my E55 AMG and the problem is very irritating...![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)
My engine (wath i think) have some strange shaking some times, the shakes will only come if i have it in P or N, never in D or R. The shakes is not very big but you feel it and like i sad it is very irritating..
I have changed the spark plugs, check the car at a computer (No fault messages or something)
I hope someone can help me and maybe some other E55 owners that have the same problem like me.

did you replace the spark plug wires along with the spark plugs? These cars aren't the smoothest when idling. A slight miss/ vibration feeling is normal. However these vibrations may be emphasized when you have bad motor mounts.

I have now checkd the sparkplugs and the wires and it looked great. I talked with a mechanic and ask how to check the mounts i did like he sad but they looked fine. Another thing that i saw when the engine was running is that the pulley didnt go "straight" it was like that the stock was destroyed.
Can the pulley maybe be the cause?

My car had a bad pulley and I changed it and it did help the shake a little but the mounts were also bad. Put the car in drive, step on the brake and give it gas, if the motor lifts up a lot then the mounts are bad. One is probably bad but you will do both while you are there. My experience tells me that your pulley and mounts are bad. Book gives you like 6-6.5 hours to replace but my guy is fast and did them both in under 4 hours and it was his first time. Again, he is pretty fast. The pulley is pretty easy. It's the pulley to the left of the motor, I think it is the idler pulley? Good luck.

If that is the case then just get and aftermarket smaller pulley, not sure I have heard of that pulley going bad but what the heck do I know? Others with more knowledge will chime in I'm sure.

Great info.. I just found out that my drivers exhaust manifold has a stress crack.. best price for part only is about $375 at genuine merc parts. Chardul suggested having it pulled and welded and put back on. Also, mentioned that engine mounts can cause this as excessive vibrations stress the manifold mounts sooo...just want to be sure regarding parts...
Went to partsgeek as suggested above found these:
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...ans_mount.html
http://www.partsgeek.com/catalog/200...ine_mount.html
the tranny mount I heard of course, to just do it at the same time. and those engine mounts had two type billstein and corteco. does it matter billstein is good name and cheapest...
or stick with genuine oem for these?
and if anyone knows a btter price on genuine merc drivers exhaust manifold please let me know.
thanks much
Ps. Getting labor prices now

Ok, mechanic lifted up....motor mounts are good. We saw the old stains where the originals failed. Replacements look like it was done with the last couple years...
I thought bout buying used manifold but knowing the same spot fails on these, I am probably going to have it pulled and welded. They guarentee the weld, they say and its a little more than half the cost if New one. I fig the manifold is good except the typical spot that stresses. Looks like it did not go all the way around and weld will work. The rest if manifold typically does not fail from what I read...
Think it will work.
Ps. I may do left lower control arm at the same time. Bushing seems bad, as told by two mechanics. bout 400 installed. Car had a very light play bushings/front.

Update: Weld on exhaust manifold held and was quiet. For about a week ![Frown](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/frown.gif)
Now shop claims they can not see any cracking around weld and that the noise I am hearing is not an exhaust leak and pretty normal. They say can't fix something, they can't find a problem with. inspected weld and no "Apparent" cracks.
Of course I know it did not make this sound when I picked it up from weld. Now same noise is back under same conditions.
Is there an upgraded exhaust manifold? Just buy one from genuine merc parts and have it installed for piece of mind? (hopefully not for full labor again).
I also noticed that bottom crank pulley? shown in picture in this thread, is also wobbling a bit? Should I worry or just keep driving it normal and enjoy?
thanks
Ps. If anyones manifold cracks, I would certainly just buy new one to elimiateit from the equation, not to mention for peace of mind alone.

Any ideas if I should try this before replacing Trans mount again, btw transfer case weight mount was loose and fell off but didn't see any damage to Trans mount. Assuming transfer case mount was loose all along.( before and after the motor/ Trans mounts where done about 3 months ago.
Thanks so much

Many luck with your issue? Dealer told me sometimes after changing Trans/motor mounts Exhaust manifolds Can cause a vibration at a stop when in gear. Suggested to Loosen manifold bolts so exhaust manifold can relax and retighten manifold bolts.
