Hi folks,
Thanks for a great forum! I was dreaming of buying an E63 for many years, pretty much since they came out. This forum spurred me on to continually think of getting one. I pile 2-3 guys in the back seat a lot of my 01 BMW 740i which this car would replace and the E is a big tight compared to what I have.
Still, I check the ads all the time just to see and dream... Then, a few days ago I was checking on the ads and noticed an 08 S63 for a bit more than a 09 E63. It had more back seat room, was very close to my house, was in the only color I'd consider so I went to look at it just to get it out of my system.
Here's the closed auction on it...not sure if you can still view the pics.

Once I saw it, I though... hell yeah. So I got a great deal on it ($5k under asking price) and spent that $5k on an extended 5 yr/60k Continental warranty.
It's way more car than what I need and I will mostly drive my 17 yr old 96 911 C4S but it'll be fun to have when I want to go out on a nice date or take the guys out for the night.
I thought about debadging it in part, or at least taking off the star logo on the front hood and doing the flat badge instead, but for now, I'll just keep it as is and think about it some more. I wanted to make it look as innocuous and as bland looking as possible (silver is at least the least showy color in my opinion) but even debadged, it's kind of obviously a big MB and not a Ford Taurus.
I just had to have it after seeing it in person and driving it. It's so big and heavy compared to my 13 year old 7 series, but pretty fast for it's 4900 lb weight. Doubt I'll be doing 0-60 in 4.5 secs much but it's nice to know it can get out of the way of itself when need be.
Pretty blessed to get the car of my dreams for 1/3 of it's original price, just 5 years later after they came out. Sat in a new one at the dealer today and the interior looks exactly the same. ($149k)
I appreciate all your great posts over the years - these AMG cars are really special, whether it's an E or an S or whatever the variant.
Best regards,
Steve

Oh well, that's life! They said it was OK to drive it there, the 12 miles or so, as long as I keep my speed down a lot so I'm taking the main roads instead of the highway from Arlington to Bethesda up Wisconsin Ave. It looks like it's at least 5" inches higher than it should be right now, over the wheels. Wonder why it did this? Wonder if they're right about being able to drive it back to them tomorrow instead having it flatbed towed?
Ever happen to you guys when you first bought a car?
