Hey,
Any new opinion on this mod?
I'm installing the new rear diffuser tomorrow and it might be an opportunity to do this mod.
My car is completely stock, I'm only looking for a bit more louder deep rumble at idle and of course more throttle sound under full throttle.
Not looking for a "screamer" at idle, just more noticeable sound.
Will it do?
Any new opinion on this mod?

MBWorld Fanatic!
I did this mod a couple of weeks ago and was actually a little disappointed because I was expecting it to be much louder lol. It's deeper and has more bass at idle and only got maybe 10% louder under wot so it seems to be exactly what you're lookin for. If it stops raining here in FL ill have a video up by the end of the day. My exhaust setup is Eurocharged long tube headers --> X-pipe --> stock resonator --> gutted stock mufflers. Even with a plasma cutter and welder on standby it took a good 2.5-3 hours of actual hands on labor with TONS of fiber glass itchyness. Be sure to use gloves and long sleeve shirt!
I took off resonator first and it wasnt loud enough so I had this work done back around 2008. It sounds great. Im actually putting my car back to stock and selling it so my modded e55 mufflers are for sale in the classifieds now.
No disrespect intended to the OP, Good job Alex! But, you were not the first one to do this mod.
I put a link to your video for someone asking about it. Ill take it down if you want. Just pm me. Thanks

Oh, by the way. I swapped in a set of RennTech shorty headers and the car does have a bit more drone now. It isn't bad or anything but there.

I just modded my mufflers today, once cut them open I found my mufflers internal is different than Alex's ones- mine had 2 inputs going with buffled pipes straight to the tips (no internal wall as in Alex's muffler.
Anyhow, we cut off the buffle pipes, took out the fiberglass and close it.
I like the results, deeper idle without any drone, under heavy acceleration it sounds more throttler and have very low drone (but the "good" drone) only if in too low gear.

not sure how the resonator for the e55 is, but on my sl55 i got rid of the mufflers, and both cats and welded the stock sl55 resonators back on in the place of the mufflers. sounds pretty wicked. they are straight through design just like mufflers but a little smaller. i have long tube headers and a 3x6 oval tube they merge into through center of car then split again for rear.
