water pump went bad, please advise

Hi,
I've had my E55 AMG (2004) for about 6 months, and really enjoy it. However, my water pump bearing went bad last week. I ordered an aftermarket replacement (GMB 147-2220) but it doesn't seem to fit entirely. The new pump is missing an extended flange with a hole that the idler pulley bolt would go through (the OEM one has this). Are there any non-oem pumps with that stupid little flange? Is it entirely necessary? I thought perhaps finding a spacer to replace said flange, but I have no idea if that's feasible or even a good idea.

This place is a joke.
Use an OEM water pump..they have a very low failure rate and are direct fit.

The OEM is like $600, and the non-OEM is 75 or so. I'd like to try and avoid that expense, if at all possible. Has no one replaced their water pump without going OEM? BTW, I have around 130,000 miles on my car.

I paid $288 from Mercedes Benz North (Houston) for an OEM WP about a year ago. Call around - $600 sounds steep

I just wish there was an alternative, I suppose, but it appears I'm stuck paying an extra 190-440 for a tiny little flange. What's truly unfortunate is that the GMB pump fits perfectly otherwise.

+1 for Rockauto. I got my plug wires from them. They were exactly the same as the Mercedes ones, even the same exact Bosch part number stamped, the only difference being they didn't have the Mercedes logo stamped on. They were like 1/3 the price of Mercedes ones if I remember

Not sure about water pumps.

Well the thing is, I bought the same part Rock Auto offers (GMB 147-2220). Every single vendor lists that part as being compatible. Maybe that extra flange isn't vital. All it does is essentially act as a spacer between the idler pulley and the block.

Used pumps are all over the place as another option.

I've attempted to attach the pictures of the old pump, and the non-fitting GMB unit, purely as an academic exercise.

Is this standoff something that could be replaced by say a small stack of washers or if you had a chunk of metal about this size that you could machine/drill to work as a standoff?

I didn't want to be a guinea pig, so I opted to send the GMB pump back, and bought the reman OEM one from Pelican Parts.

I believe that is more than a spacer/standoff. That is where the bolt for the supercharger idler THREADS in, correct. Not something you want to mess with since alignment of the pulley is very important as is the rigid mount.

Unless you are an unemployed machinist with tools in your garage, I doubt you could fab a suitable long term solution for less than the difference of the two pump prices.
