My new wheels are coming in a couple weeks, and I'm ready to buy some new tires.

I've had the V12s and have been happy with them, but my buddy insists I go with the PSS, at double the price.

I know these aren't autocross cars, but will I notice a big difference switching between the two for street driving? I mostly like to do quick stoplight to stoplight runs

I currently have the hankook v12s, they have been good to me for the month or so that Ive had them. The car had Michelin PSS when I buoght it but they were nearly worn so I cant give a fair comparision. But for the money I would say hankook v12s are best bang for your buck by far.

I can't get the V12's to hook at all. They're a good tire, just not a great tire. Love the BFG KDWs for its grip wet and dry but my favorite tire is the PSS.

PSS is probably the best tire around - they also cover 1/2 the lifetime warranty on the tires due to no rotation which is better than 95% of the tire makers out there...

you also get towing service, and more goodies... yes, they're pricey but from what everyone says you can't go wrong.

with all that said, I cheaped out too and got the V12s for < $800 for a set of 4

My problem too. I keep seeing all these Hankook V12 recommendations and I keep wondering why. I only have long tubes and a SC pulley and I can't get these things to hook at all, my invo's hooked better. I'm thinking of going with the KDW's in a month or so.

If you have staggered sets you can rotate the PSS front to front and rear to rear. This should increase their life. I would do the first rotation at 3k mile so the belts don't get a "set" not that these are know for these.

If one has direction asymmetric tires one can't do that rotation.

If I got new V12s I would go with a 275 in the rear; the tread width is about the same as the PSS in 265.

Finally the Hankook prices are going up. They are good tires though.

I was wondering if the PSS would hook up that much better as to warrant their additional cost. I can find a ton of threads on Google, but obviously, I'm not concerned about tracking or autocrossing.

can't do the F-F / R-R rotation as they're directional tires - you 'could' unmount, remount, rebalance from side to side - but then you're spending a tires cost each time you 'rotate'

I have the 275/35-18s in the rear and they seem to grip better/on-par with the Michelin A/S that were on previously

For light to light / drag racing you want a soft sidewall and a sticky tire...maybe try lowering your tire pressure a bit and see if that helps. I would suspect the PSS to fare no better for drag type driving as the sidewall is very stiff.

If you wanna race light to light look at some drag radials. They should last you a season if you park the vehicle in the winter. Also you will want another car for rainy days.

Longevity get the Hancooks, better traction get the PSS.

I would get Michelin. Last year my v12 exploded on a highway while i was doing 70mph, not a pretty feeling.

I have the PSS they are great... Trying to wear them out as I want to get 19" Forgestars.. Grip well and last.. Way better than than Hankooks....

Had both, PSS lasts longer, grip better, ride better and look better. With that being said - the V12's are a great tire for the price. But after having both I would spend the extra money for the PSS.

I'm a cheap F when it comes to tires. I have a set of $150 dollar Continental "Giovanna" Edition tires on the front of my car and $110 a piece "Delintes" on the back....

When the nice wheels come, so will the nice tires.

Just wanted to add that i currently have the PSS on my SL65 and think they are a great tire. Will be running a set of the V12's on it soon on a spare set of wheels.

Well, I have to idea about the V12's, but when I bought this they already had the PSS on, and I loved them. When I bought wheels I had to go with a cheaper tire and went with Falken 452. So far they seem to be great. I've thrown this heavy car around my normal corner in town at the same speeds as the PSS. So to me they are just as good so far.

Of course things might change as the tires wear, but these were under $700 for all 4.

I had the 452s a long time ago but stopped using them after I was getting bubbles in my sidewalls since I drive lower.

there is no way you can compare V12 EVO with PSS.

That being said. You get what you pay for i guess.

The PSS is the best all around tire out there now IMHO. But they are spendy.

I did not like the V12 tires I had as they never hooked up well. The upside is that you can flip them on the rims and get more life out of them.

I have Falken 453's now (not to be confused with 452) and they are way better than the V12 at a similar pricepoint. Good bite (really good when warmed) and excellent handling characteristics. They behave a lot like the old PS2's. Not sure about wear yet but probably don't last as long as the PSS.
