yup another E55 newb with a time slip

Whats up gents,

Just bought my first AMG a few months ago and having a blast. Had a few performance oriented cars before this (couple of v8 powered 914s) and though those cars have road feel and agility on their side, you just kind of forget all that when you launch the E55. I had BenzWorks install a few mods

1. EC Blower pulley plus Tune
2. EC heat exchanger
3. 010 pump
4. Evosport shorties (haven't re-tuned for these yet)
5. Mickey Thompson drag radails on stock wheels (265/40/18)

This was the only run I've had to date. 91 octane, 10 sec burn out, launched it off idle on S mode and let the car shift itself.

60ft: 1.77
1/8 et: 7.8x
1/8 trap: 93mph

Couple of things to note for other newbs that's probably been covered.

Out of all the short list of mods I've had, you just can't go wrong with the Mickey Thompsons. I purchased the car with brand new Pilot Super Sports and even with these, full tilt meant that 1st was useless as well as most of 2nd. As long as their some heat in the tires, the drag radials barely chirp. IMO the blower pulley had little effect where as the shorties showed better improvement all around.

If anyone in socal is up for Irwindale let me know. Happy driving

Congrats on the beast. You have more mods to your car than I've had in 6 months lol , I only got a tune.

As for the time I really don't know what those numbers mean good or bad. I only know in terms of 1/4, that anything in 11 is good and 10 is amazing and 9 is unknown territory

Anyhow. Have fun in Good Health

Yes, if anyone can translate this into 1/4 mile time then that would be great...I would like to see what these mods produced with a good tire. The 1.77 60' time seems to be good...I wish you ran 1/4 mile track. Thanks for posting this info. though.

a 7.8 in the 1/8 at that mph would prob be around a 12.0-12.1 @ 115-116

Good times

btw on those tires a 10 second burnout is not needed. prob best to come up thru the gears hold it for a second and roll out at 80-100mph.

That is correct, I now remember this from when I had drag radials on another car and I was told to do this as well.

...and thx for the estimate I figured around the same as you did. Actually figured that it was possible to go 11.9's but after seeing redbulljunky time sheets I guessed low low 12's.

The "generally" accepted convertion is 1/8th mile et * 1.57 which would equal to about 12.24

Appreciate the welcome and the breakdown of the times gents. Unfortunately there are no longer any working 1/4 mile tracks in socal so we have to make due with the 1/8th.

I was really hoping it was already a high 11 car but it is what it is as they say. My short term goal is have a solid mid 11 car (7.3-7.5 on the 8th) on our ****ty 91 octane and I'll be satisfied for the next 24-48 hours.

those numbers can go high 11s by dropping your 60' if you were to go 1.67 say that would do it. I've got slips that are high 7.70s @ 92 mph that are 11.9 @ 114 this is with a high 1.60s 60ft. sucks there is no more 1/4 tracks around

I agree with this. My times are because I have great 60fts. Especially if you are using MTs. You 60ft. should be lower. Keep your suspension in comfort and raised for your launch. And shorten the burnout and it will reduce heat pre-launch.

Good luck!

Good deal, needless to say I need to practice launching better. Really unfortunate as socal was the birthplace of NHRA in Pomona and the yuppies in the next city had it shut down because they built their homes next a racetrack

Can you clarify what you meant in, "prob best to come up thru the gears hold it for a second and roll out at 80-100mph."? Thanks!

Red - when you launch, do you go right off idle or stall it up to a certain rpm?

^ I think he means leave in drive let it shift while doing burn out and stop when Speedo shoots to 80mph.

I stall @1500rpms. Every time I've launched off idle, I broke something.

Temperature and track prep play a lot as well...how hot/humid was it on that day?

Keep in mind that this car was over 550whp and seeing almost 15-20 runs a week. And still daily driven.
