Has anyone ever sheared the key off with a stock pulley?

I've heard of it happening but never seen one. I sheared my pin off and welded the pulley to the crank when mine decided to go south. Took a couple aggravating days to get it off plus a few broken pullers.

You could say that. Had my best 330ft by .11 and still went a high 6.70 i think at the 1/8th coasting and only trapped like 80mph. It was on a pass when it happened.

This repair kit saved me and has been great since last Sept and about 3k miles on my new 195 ASP welded.

I assume this can be done ahead of time as preventative maintenance since it seems to be an "extra" keyway we're drilling here?

Confirming now, but if Weistec's kit does not work with any other cranks, then what new-available items are out there for pinning? It is clearly a problem once the engine comes apart and gets put back together. Yes, torque on a NEW oem bolt is number 1, but number 2 is getting more purchase on the just over 1/2 an inch of crank the pulley gets (just an inherently bad design - Mercedes puts an SC on an engine and doesn't redesign the crank snout - is basically what we have).

Well lets not be a dick about it i was mentioning THEIR pin kit cus its a new avaliable item u can use to pin ur crank ... beforing being a sarcastic jerk realize i was offering up a PIN kit that you could use as well wasn't saying u have to get the innovative crank pulley to use it ... geez

To close off my question on this thread, I will just have the machinist broach the pulley and put another square keyway on the crank. Done. Waste of time and money to think the other way was going to work. My mistake.

So to close off my answer in this thread ill post up a pic .... cus hooked on phonics didn't work so well for you. So heres the pop up book version so you'll understand. This is a pin kit that innovative uses ..... this pin kit can be done in car .... this is a NEW thing for us .... it uses a new hardened keyway and 3 high strength pins. The billet piece fit perfectly in my old stock crank so I'm sure itll fit your asp. Could it be used on our cars, possibly, I dont see why not, but has it been done I don't know it was just an option.

Einstein - seriously, put down the ego for second. All the kits allow pinning in the car. But the ones I found at Weistec, and infact the one you show, are made for use with THAT pulley.

Details matter. Look at your pics.

Wow .... first off that would be Gen X i was born in 73 which is squarely in Gen X and its " Take a chill pill and relax." If your going to have a battle of wits with someone please be armed to do so before proceeding and have your facts straight. An while we are at it i called innovative an he said as long as the insert fits and the keyway lines up .... as i have already informed you it does .... then their pin kit will work just fine with any other crankshaft pulley.

But i think your plan to have your machinist do it will work just fine for u. I will completely agree with you that the design of the m113ks crankshaft is very flawed. Why they would only support the inner part of the pulley where all the stress on the crankshaft pulley is on the unsupported outter portion.
