W210 E55
I'm just wondering if my '99 E55's engine was handbuilt like the new one? Oh yeah and what was the touch shift transmission they put in the 00 E55?
Not only were the engines handbuilt, but the W210 E55 was the last of the AMG's to have all AMG car modifications done entirely at the AMG factory in Affalterbach. The cars were shipped from MB to AMG, where they were then hand crafted to become the E55.
Since then, all subsequent AMG cars are built on the normal Mercedes assembly lines, where the AMG parts are then added. (The AMG Specials are still done at Affalterbach.) So in a way, the W210 was the last of the old school tuner AMG cars, done entirely at AMG Affalterbach.
