E55 Gone.. 2012 E550 Coupe 4.6TT
finally pulled the trigger..... my much loved E55 is gone.. and picked up a used 2012 dark gray E550 with almost all the options for $50k
There are few cheaper ones in NY, IL areas but I didn't want to hassle with shipping.
Car seems to be stock.. but it won't be soon.
I'll prob start witht he 2nd cats or resonator and ECU tuning. Also add W212 E63 18" rims and tires.
I won't compare to the E55 from interior and exterior.. since they are 10 years apart in technology. But I will say the ride is not much different than my lowered E55 in Sports I setting.
Power is great in "E" or 2nd gear start mode.... plenty for the wife
If you place the car in "S" mode.. wow! car moves like a stock E55
Another fellow E550 coupe owner on this forum.. just trapped 115 in stock form with all season tires. I would say this car is a solid high 12's 112/113 car.
BTW: My communte I hit 22/23MPG.. with my E55 i was hitting 16 max.
Only down side.. 2 doors, skinny rears and no more AMG brand. But hoping to pick up a used 2012 E63 in couple of years.

Wow, trapping 115 stock is pretty dang good. Wonder how the weather was when he did it. Tuning those turbos and cat delete will wake it up a lot, I would probably go that route and leave the resonator if not removing that as well.

12.4 @ 115mph bone stock. Of course this was achieved at MIR, the most notoriously fast track ever, but I dont see why you wouldnt be able to run a 12.8, like you said, or lower with a good run. These bi-turbo motors are capable of incredible things. Damn good lookin car!

Ahh MIR and probably when it was cold, yeah gonna knock that 115 down to 112 realistically. Still pretty quick and with tune and cat delete that car could pick up significant power.

If you go to carmax right now.. there is a 2012 e550 coupe wearing w212 E63 rims.. 8.5/9.5.. and looks super clean. I was going to buy that car, when it was in L.A. then Vegas.. but I wanted dark leather.
With those E63 rims and summer tires.. this car would be 114 all day.. add mild tune only.. probably closer 116/117 very similar to my stage 1 E55.
There are few write ups on this engine.. but according Renntech it will be easy to get to 500RWHP+.. After that it will require turbo swap.
Renntech is already at 480RWHP on their dyno..
I would be happy with 450RWHP on dynojet number.. at 3800 lbs.. its a good set up.

Actually I live on 5 blocks away from you.... let me know if we can do some runs in Euclid with your 550 after your tune but I think your car with a tune will be faster than my 4000 lbs 55k

From a roll after a tune.. probably equal.. but from a stop.. I doubt it.. simply no grip.
But I have a feeling this car does not have a good cooling design.. as I don't really see a dedicated H/E... so far my research shows the IC seats next to the engine and uses part of the radiator system to get coolant to the IC core.
I would need to investigate adding power and no cooling mods..Could make a fun ride for a few WOT runs... but it will just create more heat after that the system wont' be able to control efficiently.
much to learn about this car.

good looking ride - cant wait to see it tuned with new wheels - throw some Vossens on there - not sure why MB won't make the E550 in a wagon -

made contact with OE tuning.. this thing is going in May, when they have another tuning Sale scheduled.
2nd cats are about to removed.. probably get this done this week..
wheels.. probably looking for C63 rims and tires or E63 w212 18".. looking to only gain width on the rims and tires. But they will have to wait until these P zero are 50% left..
cooling is something I have to check when stock vs tuned.. I need to start data logging AIT's in the upcoming days and compare when the car is tuned.
reports are these engines perform with no major issues in the summer months.. but with more boost.. seems like there is not much data.
suspension in confort mode is a bit soft and in sports mode is nice.. but the springs have a bit of too much rebound. probably upgrade the rears springs as a last mod.
overall car is solid, fast and MPG is crazy good.. when driving in Economy mode.. I hit 25 MPG on my 17 mile commute.

Good read on some of these engines' details: http://www.marcusfitzhugh.com/CLK/M278.html
Looks like the crank and rods are forged... But also looks like the turbos are welded to the manifolds...
