airmatic compressor question

when starting my car(usually when cold) the airmatic compressor engages and works for the first maybe 5 minutes, its kind of annoying as it makes a bothering noise and a slight vibration. is it a bad compressor or maybe a bad mounting bracket? i'm really not sure but this cant be normal. any help would be greatly appreciated.

it may be normal...but get under there and look at the mount. There are 3 long bolts if I rememeber correctly and they have rubber bushings with springs on them to help with the vibes. The mount isn't to expensive so you could replace it if you really wanted too, but I would take a look and see what the springs and bushings look like. Also, maybe the bolts came out a bit making to much play in the compressor. DO NOT tighten them all the way, but maybe they need to be adjusted a little.

Actually the nuts that go on the 3 long rods need to be 100% tight. There should be washers above the pump and are crucial that they are there. First the pump goes up , then the springs , spring retainer and then the nuts. If the washers are left off, the pump will vibrate through the chassis. I have never, ever seen the mount components go bad unless physically broken.

However if your pump is running that long it may have weak output causing it not to achieve proper output pressure. It needs to make 12-14 bar.

You can test it with SDS. If you do replace it always remember to replace the relay along with it.

Thanks guys, I will start by taking a look under the car and making sure everything is tight and solid. Hopefully it's just a little tightening. Thank you.

dont over tighten them...there is a torque amount for them....I know because one of mine snapped off and I had to improvise until i ordered the new mount compressor.

Drivers side front bumper. Just get down and look up behind the bumper. You can't miss it.
