BRAKES - gray notice in the dash
yesterday morning I had a "BRAKES - see service"(or something like that) on the dash
I realized that I hadn't replaced my AUX battery yet, it's been sitting in the garage for 2 weeks so I finally made time to put it in yesterday - geesh, like 10 minutes!
I'm probably going to take the car in anyways because two of the door handles are not locking, and there's (what I think) a clunk from the front drivers side going over slight bumps (tie rod end?) and i'm about 1k from my service time anyways...
could the brake issue be related to the lower AUX battery? or something else?

cool - thankfully this warranty has paid itself off in spades, so hoping to get it all covered

I actually had the same message come up like 6 months ago and when it would come up my keyless start wouldn't work either. The message went away randomly and never came back.

Just had the Brake Warning about two months ago. Scanned the code and found an SBC C249F "check operating time". I took it to the dealer and they did a software update that resolved the issue. No driveability problems before or after the work.
Dealer says that MB requires the software update prior to replacing the unit. If the code comes back they will replace it. Not sure if this is BS but I have a few years left on the warranty and figured the dealer WANTS to replace it so they would have if they could.

Being I have a 2003 this repair would probably be out of pocket soon, if it's not already. Just how much does a dealer charge for one of these? I wanna say I've heard anything up to a cray $5 grand, and I believe I once found the part online for only about $1500. Is this something we could install with someone with a STAR or are more specialty tools needed? Just wondering in case I get the red gauge of death one day.

toadster. thats what happend to me.
same warning then a few weeks later kaboooom. red warning and loosing all brakes.
do you feel that you have to press the brake pedal pretty far in ? thats a sign of SBC failure.
i got everything fixed for free at dealer under the 10 yr recall.

they've got it - so hopefully will check over the next day or so.... got my sportin C250 loaner
first thing you've gotta do in this car is push the C/S button to change to 'S' - seriously different than the E55 in driving difference!

FYI ; - I had a grey message pop up with the brake pad symbol, this happened after i had jet washed the car so im thinking water has effected the brake sensors, message only popped up for that day, but seems fine now.

got the car back today, new thrust bearings - WOW what a difference in handling!
brake stop switch - no more annoying BRAKES message
two new door handles - yay, keyless locking again!
overall, I'm very impressed with the thrust bearing replacement - I just thought the car was feeling 'old' and sluggish in the corners - holy crap, what a difference!
