New to The Beast ------ Kiwi E55 Owner!
Hi all.
I have had a pretty good trawl of this forum whilst thinking (fantasizing) about owning a super quick sedan such as the E55. I have never owned a European car before so big step to the dark side......but goddamn......I am smitten!
Have purchased an E55, Silver.....fully optioned......98000 kms. Interior is seriously like new. The exterior is even better. The great folks at EC Mercedes here in Auckland gave it a giant "minter-bro" tick with pre-purchase inspection. The car is a beauty and I am in love.
NZ is a great country to drive. We have lots of fantastic roads and lots of great destinations to drive to. I am desperately hunting for the best roads so I can unleash this beautiful car.
I owned a Lexus GS450h prior and this is my first dip into the European stable. There is a difference and it has something to do with X factor. The je ne sais quoi that something lovely has.......
I love the feel on the road and I love the way it looks. I love the quality of the buttons you push and the fittings. Only slight gripe is the Lexus stereo is better........(anyone have after market thoughts here?)
I do not have a mechanical warranty on this puppy but the pre-purchase could not have been more positive and the car feels right. Kiwi warranty companies balk at M , RS, E.....you get my drift. However, I am prepared should the worst happen and am realistic. Other thing is, the warranty folk are slippery as hell when things happen anyways in this part of the world. That fine print is at the center of everything.
So hello to the world of Euro cars and AMG! I have a smile on my dial and am looking for excuses to 'pop out' for milk whenever I can (amazingly seems to take far longer than it used to).
Cheers guys for the advice to date and YES!....I will use the search feature!
Awesome!

Ah you got the nice one from St Heliers on trademe? Congratulations. You can do a lot of the work yourself if you are that way inclined. Some things are easier, some things are more difficult than your average Japanese car.

Need4spd.......I hope you are only referring to the gas light (not the 'check engine' bit)!
TW2......I am in Auckland but we have a place at The Mount so spend a lot of time there! Just out of interest....did you have a look at the car?
To all others....thanks for the welcome!

If the triangle ain't lit you ain't livin!!
Congrats on the purchase.
Don't sweat the warranty, so much info and guidance here that DIY is possible for 90% of what pops up.

E55 AMG 2004
Hey manganui, I'm down south in Dunedin and late last year I got myself a silver 50km 04 E55 out of Christchurch and loving it!
Back in the day when they were new I was lucky enough to have a drive in a MB press car, the price tag at the time was 240k and well out of my league! I never forgot that drive hence why there's one in my garage now!
Hunting for the best roads? come south to the Lindis Pass and unleash the long legs .... make sure you've got a beauty of a radar detector!!!
