In the market for an E55
#26
I hear you, but my point is not every W211 is gonna have every airmatic fail and all those tranny issues and most of the stuff listed. You can't take one E55 example and say that's how they all are. It doesn't work that way and it'll scare off the uninformed buyers looking to buy one.
To be honest, these cars are far more reliable than the M5/M6 counterparts.

I have to agree with ARMOE55 on this one.
You can't say that because your car needed all that work that every e55 will need the same or will be paying the same amount for repairs. That goes for any car make/model.
Having all 4 airmatics fail isn't exactly a common occurrence. I haven't had one failure and neither has my cousin with his and we've both owned the car a few years now.

and i am not saying everyone's experience will be the same as mine... iam just saying get a warranty for $3-6K and dont scoff at that cost because it will pay for itself in 9/10 cases if you keep the car for a few years

2006 E55 AMG
Bought my 1 owner 06 in september of 2011 at 42k miles. I service well ahead of the schedules. Its my daily driver and I have racked up the miles to 90K (just hit today) I've done, aside from oil changes every 5 - 7k miles, the spark plugs $300, transmission fluid/filter $120, serpentine belt, turbo belt, brake flush, power steering flush $400, Starr lowering $100, auxiliary battery $100, voltage regulator $26 (not needed) and the trunk lid brake light $200. NO problems, never left me stranded, rock solid bullet proof car. No warranty just find a good reliable indy to take care of what you cant.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this car!!!!! Planning to take it 120k or better before I trade up to an E63.
Did I mention i love this car?

I've scheduled a PPI for Thursday on the car I'm interested in. I spoke to the warranty broker and he told me that they do not cover the air suspension on these cars.

.
Set a few grand aside in an "E55 repair account". At this point, that's about all you can do if you want to drive a car that is 7 - 10 years old.

So I got the PPI back. It's looking like a no-go:
--bent rim and tire bubble
--trans connector and oil pan leak
--wheel bearing needs replacement
--needs new front pads/rotors
and the coup de gras
--trans has whirring noise when warmed up, may need major repair or replacement

So I have quotes for a 4-yr/48k for $7k, down to a 2-yr/24k for $3359, depending on which deductible I want. I figure I can cut that price in half after negotiation. It seems not to be too bad, it's unlikely that I'll keep the car for four years, never had a single car that long. But as we all know, the devil is in the details. Other than the obvious big drivetrain pieces, what do I absolutely need to be covered? Suspension and electrical systems?

I would only worry about this stuff.
This is not uncommon. I'd recommend Akebono pads anyways, just for the better compound and lower dust.

Sounds like a perfect opportunity to upgrade.

This is a common sound with our cars. It is annoying, but not a sign of a problem.
