Wrecked CL55 For Sale

RUNS AND DRIVES FINE

PRE AND POST ACCIDENT PICS ARE UP!

CAR WILL BE SOLD WHOLE
SORRY BUT I DO NOT HAVE TIME OR SPACE TO PART OUT

CAR WILL NOT COME WITH THE WHEELS

Car is located in Seattle

2003 CL55

Friend had an accident with my car last weekend. Insurance paid me out and I bought it back. Under the hood looks like brand new. I spend hours with a rag and simple green every weekend on this car. It ran great and was fast as hell before the accident. Eurocharged tune and custom exhaust on the car. It had 0 accidents on the car fax before this one with service records. I spent over 10 grand in the last year on maintenance.

Since I was paid out by insurance I'm assuming the title will be branded as rebuilt. It bounced off a car in a parking lot going 15 mph and took out the driver side of the hood, bumper, fender, and head light. The quarter panel also has a crease. The screen on the car quit working about 6 months ago. It has all of the radio functions, but the screen itself as quit working.

Car has had an absolute ton of maintenance done.

NO ABC ISSUES

I will have pictures up in the next couple days. I will have a price then also.

I have recently did the fuel filter, spark plugs, oil change, air filters, transmission service, manifold absolute pressure sensor, oil level sensor, intake air temp sensor, ball joints, and valve cover gaskets. Some of the work I did as preventative maintenance and the rest was part of an early 90,000 mile service. I'm crazy when it comes to maintaining this car, and all of the work is done to perfection. All of the bulbs (including H.I.D.) have been replaced, as well as all relays that have common problems. It does not leak or use any fluids. This is a car that has been maintained, and is completely up to date on its services.

86,XXX Miles
Oil Level Sensor replaced
JUST changed the oil and filter
New Lower Ball Joints
Custom Alignment
Custom Exhaust
Newer Bosch Alternator and Battery
Updated Bosch Intercooler Pump
Stoneguard On Headlights and Mirrors
Lorinser Spoiler
Lowered
Eurocharged Ecu Tune (550 horsepower/ 540 ft lbs of torque)
Transmission Service done by Mercedes Benz of Seattle
Rear Diff just serviced
NO ABC ISSUES/ Fluid and filter was just changed
Pulsation Damper replaced

That's sad how little damage superficial damage it takes to total a car like that. What an easy fix.

Yes, looks like a pretty easy fix. Glad everyone is ok.

I am almost tempted to take that deal but just have to many projects right now.

The problem is that for a few thousand more you can buy a 2003 CL55 with a clean title and no damage. IMHO, this would need to be in the 6k to 7k range to make it worth the gamble. MB parts are not cheap and it's the damage you can't see that will get you.

If you were resourceful, that car could be fixed for $2500 not including labor. 10k or under would make it attractive to fix as long as it weren't a dirty (salvage) title. I wouldn't fix any luxury car with a salvage title unless it was some kind of rare limited edition gem, or unless the car was just about free. Those goons crack me up on eBay with the repaired salvage title cars for freakin 10% off a clean title car.

The OP said it would most likely be a branded title. Still a big risk with a $2500 and a branded title. With branded title, 6k at best since you can get a clean one with no damage for 12k to 15k.

I guess I don't have my finger on the pulse of the CL 55 market, I thought it was still a 18-21k car with that mileage. If insurance paid a claim on it,it's still a clean title. If insurance totaled it and he bought it back, it's junk... Part it out.

That's what it sounds like to me. 215 CL market is in the gutter. The unreliable and expensive to repair ABC suspension makes them a not very desirable car to own after the warranty runs out. It's a shame because they are great looking cars.

I agree. The taillights kill it for me though. I think they're considerably better looking than the universal car plastic lights on the 07+ models but someone needs to make a modern looking taillight to fit in the stock opening on those cars, and have a solution for the ABC, then they're awesome in my eyes.

There is a solution for the ABC suspension. You can get the CL retrofitted with a coilover kit but there is no sway bar. A member on the 215 CL section says it handles pretty good. The CL's chassis is very stiff so maybe it wouldn't be too bad.

You can buy an absolute piece of **** for 15,000 from what I have seen.

Unmaintained, leaking, bad ABC system, and in need of 10,000+ dollars of mechanical work.

I work in the industry and see S55s and a few CLs that are in this category. People buy these cars for 12-15k, bring them in for service, and just about melt down when they are told the car needs ABC pump, two struts, oil pan gasket, valve cover gaskets, tensioner pulleys, all of it services, and a transmission. This is just to get the car back to being half way reliable.

This is not that car.

You can get a really nice CL for 15k. It's really unfortunate that you take a depreciation bath owning one. I know. I took a huge hit when I sold my CL600. It was just sickening at the time and mine was pristine with over 10k thrown into the ABC suspension and misc parts.

This one looks good but mileage is higher. Asking 12.9k. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...33948652&Log=0
2004 CL600 with 65k miles for 13.9k http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...gIndex=2&Log=0
2003 CL55 85k miles for 12.9k. http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...Index=18&Log=0
2003 89k for 15.9k http://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-s...gIndex=4&Log=0

I agree, owning a. S600 and working in the dealer world I see the same thing. 95% of the 215's and 220's with abc are in horrible shape from neglect and because of it these cars have become worthless. People think because you can find them for $15k that that's what there all worth. And they kind of are due to that. I would not sell my s600 for less than 30 but I will never get that. To the informed its worth paying more for a car that is well maintained but its hard for people to pass up a "cheap" car. If I had the time or the $ I would buy it but I can't right now. Good luck with the sale.

What a waste, but really you got a insurance check n the vehicle with maybe just body, censor, possible frame work. Smart move would be work with a indie shop, invest the check in the vehicle, get it working great like it use to than keept it or THAN sell it for 10-12k. Thats fair, if this is a part vehicle it would be a shame n 10k is to
Much for a part car even at this caliber of a vehicle. Theres no wheels n its 03' we all know that its not gonna sell so for the cars sake revive her so you dont junk it up more by sitting it with no love.

Its not going to sell???? Your funny. I've found buyers for cars much worse for more then that one...... Its going to come with knock off 19" CL65 wheels that actually look pretty good.

I work in this industry for a living. I will get within 500 dollars of 10,000 for the car. That is for sure. I just thought I'd rather see it go to an enthusiast instead of a body shop owner who is going to fix it and sell it.

That is my reason for posting it here. I have two body guys locally that are interested. We will see if it sells this week. From what I have seen people who have these cars place a very high value on the ones that are maintained. The people that sell the cars in the 13-16 thousand dollar range are selling cars that in my opinion should sell for 9-11 because of the horrible shape.

Maybe I'm blind, but I'm still confused as to why you're selling it? You got the Ins money and bought it back - don't give me figures, but I'm willing to bet it's worth it to fix it and keep it.

You maintained it religiously and put a lot of time/money into her (your words) so why not keep it?

I'm not sure I follow your logic because you say you took care of it so well and it's worlds above the other 215 examples on the market/coming into the dealers ...

Were you planning to sell the car before the accident? If not, I can't wrap my mind around why you would sell it and not just fix it - from the sounds of your post, it's just body damage, i.e. no engine, suspension, frame etc.

PS Is your friend an idiot or was he drunk or both?
