P0392 code in E63
After some hard driving last night I got a check engine light. Borrowed a reader this morning and found the following:
P0392 - Cam Position Sensor B Circuit Low Input (Bank 2).
I searched the site but couldn't find anything on it. Anyone have experience with this and can offer some advice on repair/replacement?
TIA,
Scott

I found more info but it does not mean much to me
Generic OBD Error Code Details for P0392
Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit Low
What does this mean?
OBD Code P0392refers to
The optical sensor provides a high resolution signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) by counting pulses on the sensor disk located in the injection pump. The high resolution is one of the most important inputs by the PCM for fuel control and timing. This test monitors the number of high resolution pulses which have been missed (not detected). It's based on a comparison between the number of pulses that were detected since the last pump cam pulse and the number of the pulses that should have occurred. There are approximately 64 high resolution pulses for every cam pulse.
Symptoms
Possible sumptoms of OBD code P0392
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
Causes
Possible causes of OBD code P0392
- Open or short in the optical sensor circuit - Optical sensor connector - Damaged optical sensor - Damaged PCM or ECM The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: Some high resolution pulses are missing from the optical sensor to the PCM
Possible Solutions
- If damage, repair optical sensor circuit - Replaced optical sensor - Replaced PCM or ECM

Forgot to update this thread. I got it resolved along with a host of other electrical issues. It was the exhaust cam sensor on the drivers side ( the lower one closest to the fender). IN my case, the previous tech who worked on it pinched the connecting wires and exposed some of the wiring. This, in turn, created a major ground issue for all of the engine electronics which, via STAR, indicated that ALL cam sensors were bad....which wasn't the case. It also fried the ecu. Why the ecu doesn't have protection from these types of problems is beyond me.
After replacing the ecu and the sensor things are working fine. I think the sensor was around $100 and it is something you can do yourself if you're motivated.

Actually I unplugged the cam sensors just to find that the plugs both sides of the car are full of OIL. Where is this oil coming from I have no idea. I have and see no oil leaks. I removed the sensors thinking maybe they are leaking into the plugs and nope does not seem like it. Anyways I got some electrical cleaner and cleaned them out and the car codes went away by themselves soon after I got another code this time P0376 same area but different code.
P0367 Camshaft Position Sensor "B" Circuit Low (Bank 1)
What can this be? right now I am tempted to buy a new sensor is Sensor B Bank 1 referring to driver side?
