Alternate tire size on rear wheels?

The standard size is 265/35/18. Does anyone know if a 255/40/18 or a 255/45/18 would work on the stock wheels? I'm looking for an all season solution other than Pirelli which is the only brand that makes the stock size in an all season tire.

If you want to put all four wheels the same size, you should get 245/40/18.

You should always try to keep the overall diameter between the front and rear as close as possible:

stock:
245/40/18 = 25.7"
265/35/18 = 25.4"

I dont think 255 tires can fit the front. Very few companies make 255/40/18 tires, I think only Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and Continental make them, are you sure about those two tires? Have you heard the "pulling to the right story"?

IMO, you should keep your car as is now.If you want to put all-season tires for the snow, I would say.... forget about driving it on the snow. Otherwise, you car is best equipped with Ultra High Performance tires, its too powerful, you need A LOT of grip.

The standard rear tire is 275/35/18, NOT 265. Your signature does not say if you have an E55, but this is the correct forum.

Anyway, you may want to look at the Goodyear GSD, or call Luke at the Tirerack.

ajoe.. the pirellis p7000s ss as you know already are the only allseason tires in the stock size. by the sounds of things you plan to drive regularly or live in snow country? the p7000ss arent a very good tire overall. if you are worried about snow you might want to pick up some dedicated snow tires or swap out the rear wheels for the same ones as the front and go 2454018 all the way around. that smaller size in itself would help your snow traction. btw the goodyear gsd3 = death in snow.

I live in northern new england and know from previous experience that a good all season tire will suffice. I was hoping to put a good high performance all season tire and use year round. The problem is the size of those rear tires. Your idea of putting the same size wheels on the back would open the door to many all season choices. I just feel you give up too much of your performance fun when you go to a dedicated "winter" tire. I used blizzaks on my M5 and couldn't wait to take them off in the spring.

Does anyone know the reason why the rears were switched to 265 on the W211 from 275 on the W210?
