Transmission experts chime in
Over the last 2 days, my '04 has behaved like a slipping clutch on a manual trans. Both times were 1st drives of the day. Both were hard WOT pulls to around 80 mph merging onto the highway. After I got up to speed I got completely out of the throttle, the trans would hang the rpm like any other E55 waiting for me to pounce on it again. When it wa sdone hanging there a hard jolting clunk...I applied some pressure to the gas paedal and got all revs each time. I pulled off to the side of the road to a complete stop, applied the gas and she went like normal. I'm confused, maybe I need to change the fluid or start tranny shopping....idk, experts please advise. Thanks in advance.
Note: Not sure if this is working but to avoid it I tried the WOT's and once up to speed, I stayed in the throttle partially, enough to control the rate of deceleration and the jolt/clunk does not happen.

Could be early signs of a contaminated conductor plate. 90% of the time simply cleaning the iron "dust" off of the 2 speed sensors fixes most conductor plate issues. If you doing a filter and fluid, drop the valve body ( remove the trans connector socket first! 7mm) and clean the conductor plate. The 2 sensors and the magnetic pick up for the gear selector on the vb.
The car hit the torque limit from the clunk and put itself in neutral to protect its self. My built trans will do that at times when I "confuse" it
Also, if your car is holding gear due to just being under full throttle, just tap the shifter to up shift or hold it to the right. This is normal.

Never got it figured out and it hasn't happened again. I barely drive the car anymore so i'm not in a hurry to fix it. Once I relocate the car to Dallas, Tx I will find a Autohaus to take it to. If you get it fixed, please let me know what I'm in for.
