2008 G55
Most Common 55K Performance Upgrades?

Hey All-

Just got a new 55K (2008 G55) and I am trying to find out which mods are the best bang for the buck. I am trying to avoid going with renntech/kleeman packages as it seems like you can do what they offer and save 10k in the process.

Some stuff I have read about:

Replace pump with a higher flow variant (which one?)
Replace heat exchanger for a better variant (which one?)
New Pulley
New Throttle Body
ECU tune (Seems like eurotune is the best deal currently)
New Headers (Which ones?)

Aside from that- the only other thing I could think of would maybe be larger injectors and changing the boost. Not sure I am ready to **** with that yet though.

Any thoughts?

-Dan

You definitely sound confused.

ECU tune is just about the cheapest HP you can buy.
Throttle body is one of the last things you do
Larger injectors comes near the end as well.

My suggestion:
Bosch 010 pump - new owners seem to always buy cars with failed pumps.
EC tune - cheap HP, no brainer. Retunes are cheap later on as you add parts
Quaife - power without traction is a waste of money and effort
Headers - expensive no matter what, but there is still a lot of price variation. Adds power without heatsoak.
Pulley/cooling/retune - pulley adds heat, cooling removes it. Retune maximizes the power that you paid for.
Fuel loop / TB - final steps to put you over 500RWHP if you are still looking for more....

Call Bruce @ T/T/M (New York) and he can lay out an upgrade plan with you and take care of all the install & tuning for you.

2008 G55
Do I need to upgrade the heat exchanger as well as the pump? Or is the pump alone fine? Do you get any gains from that, or is it just reducing power loss between quick runs?

Also, I am assuming the 2008 G55 is the same engine as the 55K's in this forum, so the part # should be identical

These cars are all about managing heat.

A hot engine means the ECU is going to do two things:

Add lots of fuel to cool the pistons (over rich AFRs)
Pull timing (advance) to reduce detonation

Both of these kill power. The Bosch 010 pump will be great even of you add a larger HE later on. If you add a big pulley, you HAVE to get agressive with cooling mods too. That's why I suggested headers first.

Getting these cars from roughly 390WHP (stock) to 550WHP is well-documented. Literally, you will find dozens of threads here explaining how to do it.....

Grab a cold drink, and start reading.

Is it required to have a new H/E before you install the new bosch? (maybe it pumps too fast for stock H/E ? )

The Bosch "010" pump is a stock replacement pump (the BEST revision that Mercedes used themselves). It will work fine with either a stock or larger H/E.

Seriously, this information is all over this site hundreds of times. Do some searches and you'll learn 99% of what you want to know.

Mezziere WP 136 pump flows better but you will need a bracket to mount it. Pulley , tune and headers all go well together.
