Thoughts on New Purchase
I found a low mileage 2005 E55 (black, keyless-go) on autotrader. They're asking $29,000 which seems a little high but the car looks pristine and only has 30,000 on the odometer. Its at a Mercedes dealer and they claim they put $2000 into the car. Carfax also says the computer was reprogrammed and the alternator was replaced. Other than that, it appears to be as expected of a 30,000 mile car.
Anyone have any feedback. Anything specific to look for (the dealer claims that everything works because, his words, "we're a Mercedes dealer"). This will be my first Mercedes so I'm just trying to get a handle on what to look for and what maintenance to expect over the next 50,000 miles.
thanks for the help.
1) Is it a later year 05 or early 05? You can tell this by the clam open console or sliding console; hopefully the sliding console as those are the later ones and have slight updates/upgrades and are basically an 06
2) IC pump should be good, but I'd get it replaced with the Bosch 010.
3) Check the motor mounts, tranny mounts, valve cover gasket leaks and the aux battery as those are some weak points on this car
4) Check the airmatic to make sure none are leaking
5) I'd get a PPI done (YOU choose the shop, don't let the seller choose) and make sure they're reputable - those will you all the things that need replacing or maintenance
Other than that, these cars are fairly reliable/troublefree with the history records and proper care. And that price is actual spot on with that mileage, especially if it was taken care of by the PO.
GLWS
All the other repair issues aren't that big of a deal as this forum has quite a bit of information (I've been skimming this and the m5 site for some time trying decide) and I would prefer a stock unit so I can do the mods myself.
Thanks again.
