If that 700hp smart car engine wasn't accompanied by a conversion to RWD and a 4 link, yes it's legal
It's highly unlikely that this 700hp Smart car would break 9.99 or 135 mph without cutting the car up pretty good, so it's not a good "what if this? What if this" argument

(626) 914-4761 which is the NHRA corporate office number will certainly dispute your interpretations of the rule.
Anyone want to bet they define UNALTERED "as the vehicle came directly from the manufacturer"? And that even drag radials would be in violation of this rule...much less headers, etc.
The rule change was to allow factory/production cars that roll off the assembly line that can run quicker than 11.49 such as ZR-1, Vipers, Lambo's, GT-R's, etc. This was not to allow a car that was built with safety of a 200 hp highway vehicle to run with the same considerations of cars that are built to run at those faster speeds.
Im not saying I like or agree or disagree with the rule, I am just stating what the rule is.

but i do agree with what you said about the rules and my understanding is the same as what you've written..... now, will billy bob and jon boy running the local track enforce it the same way, is a different story with not all outcomes being equal

Looking forward to seeing the SD track times. What do your IAT's look like?
As for the rule change I've been pushing MIR to change it for a while and they were discussing with NHRA for a while before the changes were made. Most tracks have no clue what came with the car anyway or they don't care. The tech at my local track doesn't even pop the hood on my car. They think it's just another slow mercedes

Back to the original topic, we'll have to see some real data from Speedriven's kit before we can compare. However we know the price is a lot better.

We (as a general 55k industry, save for the TT guys) keep adding fuel to a fire with no oxygen. Too make solid repeatable power we likely need an IC larger than the stock location permits. I think we'll be disappointed until there's a viable option for a significantly larger IC. The speedriven kit may have less heat issues than the weistec but time will have to answer that question. I still think we're trying to move a mountain with a lever that's not nearly long enough.

You are right. It is an option from Weistec but don't know if Speedriven offers one. It looks like the intercooler pump is also not included in the Weistec kit. The CM30 is an option for $150 so this will not comparable as well.
btw...Why is it that the CM30 is still recommended over the bigger CM90 for these larger blowers?

Dirt Scooters
I believe a few of us have figured out how to make the stock style intercoolers work to the best of their ability but I would love to see a picture of the speedriven core to see what it looks like and size. The stock style isn't that bad when modded really.
