Audio experts: help needed.

I'm getting audio dropouts every 15 minutes or so. The audio stops for a millisecond then returns. It doesn't matter what I'm listening too (SAT, CD, Tuner, Aux) or how loud.

I've replaced the COMAND head unit and Audio Gateway and it still persists and is driving me CRAZY

My car is optioned with SAT, NAV & Bluetooth.

Anyone else experience this?

Did you see any loose connections or possible frayed wiring when you replace the gateway and receiver? I'm having the same issue. I just dont know where to look to see if I could possibly clean any fiber contact points.

No. Everything looking factory fresh and perfect when I made the swap.

I disconnected the bluetooth today, but the problem still remains.

So far, I've eliminated the Head unit, the amp/gateway and the phone as problems.

I still need to swap out the SAT, CD changer and NAV unit.

I was thinking about scrapping COMAND and going aftermarket due to this issue with the sound cutting out.

I'm just worried about the possible issues I may have with replacing it.

Probably not a bad idea.

I wish a cellular ipad Mini would fit in the dash. It would replace nav, ipod, sat radio, phone, and add mobile internet, movies, pandora and games

in the aftermarket world, if the diagnosis you presented was the case, most of the time it is because you are drawing a short somewhere in the system. in most cases, one of your speakers or the factory amplifier is going bad and sending a "short" signal to the HU telling it to turn off before anything detrimental happens to the system. to diagnose it, if you want to try doing it yourself: disconnect one speaker from the factory amplifier at a time and try playing the system, see if it turns off again. if it does turn off, connect that speaker back, and try the next one. i have not seen the factory amplifiers in our cars so i'm not sure how easy plugging in and unplugging connections are, but if it is a PITA then disconnect signal from each door individually, then the factory woofer. that should at least pin point where the problem is, of course if you want to do it yourself.

Unfortunately, access to the amp is tough in my case. It is behind the trunk closer motor, dynamic seat pump, nav unit & fuse box. It took me 4 hours to swap out the amp and i wouldnt do it again.

Access to the speakers is also not easy since you have to remove the door panels.

I do agree though that it must be some type of short. I get a small static pop as the sound cuts out momentarily. Totally random.

The car is new to me so i cant say how long this has been going on.

I'll continue to search for the solution.

Thanks for your advice.
