E55 AMG
Full Leather interior
Was in Tokyo for a business trip, and picked up a mag that focuses on only MB-AMG cars. Featured was this W210 E55 with a full leather interior. You may not be able to tell from the pics, not only are the dash and doors covered in full leather, but also parts of the head liner as well. Very nice!

Designo Options
I am sorry to say that Mercedes-Benz will not allow individualized Designo-modified cars in the United States. According to M-B, the problem lies with the NTSB, to wit, unless the leather/color is tested for fire-safety first, it may not be imported here.
Perhaps more annoying, however, is the decision by MB-USA about the Designo options for 2004 E-Class vehicles. There will be three: Silver, Espresso and Graphite. For some inexplicable reason, the very attractive Silver option will NOT be available for the E55. Of course, that is the one I want! Currently, I have the Espresso edition for my 2001 E55, and it is gorgeous. The 2004 Espresso, however, has a less rich-colored leather for the E55; only the more expensive AMG cars (S and CL) retained my leather.
Don't some of these policies make one start to wonder what sort of business people run Mercedes-Benz USA these days?

MBWorld Fanatic!
Let me clarify, Designo isn't an appearance package that it is here in the US. Its more of a customation program for the factory. In Europe you can get just about any color combo interior you want as well as some nice upgrades, like steering wheels. AMG also has some nice custom made interiors but its not the same ones that they import into the US. Didn't someone just post an E55 with the all red leather interior? That's Designo.
