E55, C63 or E63?
You'll have excuse me I'm a noob when it comes to MB and the AMG models. I recently sold a 2008 E90 M3 in hopes of buying an AMG torque monster!! Now that I've started my search what do you think the pro and cons are between the 3 listed?
E55 is now almost 10 years old. Spending that kind of money should I just spend the extra and go with a more modern C63 or E63?
What are the things to consider/look for if I do go with an E55?
Thanks in advance for any input.
04-06 E55 could be had anywhere from 14-28 thousand
C63 will be highly likely over 33k
E63 I have no clue regarding but recently I saw some listed over 40k, now that's
the one with new body shape, I think called W212
If you are able to get a E55 for 20k , you can drop the rest 10 grand into it
and make it a Bi-turbo lol (pipe dream) but make it very fast.
So again, what are your goals ? I'd say stay with newer tech and all , for ex
newer E63 or C63 unless you want to mod and what not.
E63 - 211 minimal interior updates (biggest one i see is more comfortable seats), but that NA motor is really nice - just keeps pulling and pulling and sounds throaty - harder to get big HP gains like the 55K motor
C63 - i have only driven one but own a E55/63 and love the size of the car and looks - the C would be more inline with your M3 - C63 has great style and seats are amazing - only drawback in my opinion is the center stack looks like c300 -

Budget wise not looking to dump more than 50K. I did find an 04 E55 with only 20,000 miles on it but the guy wants like 33,000 for it
There is a new fixed clutchless pulley , with a tune and that 77mm pulley alone you'd be
making ~470-490 rwhp. If you put on headers you'd be above and beyond 500 mark. It'll be daily drivable too.

I own an E55 and love this car to death, but the C63 is looking more and more appealing to me and it's a newer car.
If you have the extra dough, go for the C63, you won't regret. Stick to the 2011+ as the updates and gremlins were worked out from the 09 and 10 cars.

Thanks Armo, Really like the face lifted 2012 front end too.
going to drive an E55 this weekend. My mom's boyfriend works at MB of Cincinnati so i'll be able to drive the others there.
I've had both and loved both of them.
It comes down to what you want from the car.
E55 - Comfortable, luxurious, fast in a straight line bone stock. Modding is nearly endless now with people doing amazing things with these motors. Since its an older model there are more things to go wrong, Airmatic, leaky rear seal, leaky fuel senders and possible cracked pistons (for modded motors, weakest link in the motor). The transmission is dated but yes its a tank for modding, you really dont have to worry too much about it until you start reaching 600whp.
C63 - Nimble, quick, similar to an M3 but with a lot more down low grunt. Handling is comparable to an M3 but the M3 takes twisties a bit easier. The sound of the C63 and the 7G- Transmission is awesome with its rev matching downshifts (MCT in the newer '12+ with faster crisper shifts). Modding game with the C63 is easy to get 500whp, Long tubes, Tune, Filters and Airboxes. If you're looking for more than 500, you'll have to spend a pretty penny with Weistec and grab a supercharger.
Some videos for fun.

As some have said, it is possible to make these really fast with low impact on the pocket book. I have spent quite a few $$$ in other cars to make them fast. I could have bought 3-4 E55 for what I have in the other cars. Sure they are faster ... but not nearly as streetable or comfortable.

which I think started in 2012 and you'd never look back.
Only reason I got the E55 was that I'd mod the hell out of it and easier to gain power but
other than the S/C pulley and tune, I didn't do squat to it lol.
I love my E55 but I could've had a newer car if it wasn't for modding. There were good deals on C63 and E63 at that time but I chose this.
Oh and it's good on gas too lol since it doesn't drink much until the S/C engages.
So once again, make sure what your goals are, only power is what you crave? or a newer vehicle with equal power stock per stock less modding capability
is what you can live with ?

My wife is pushing for the newer C63 lol either way good to have her on board
She seems to have given into the idea of bavarian built hotrods being in the garage. Can't wait to see her face when I mash the pedal on the 55
