E55, C63 or E63?

Hey,

You'll have excuse me I'm a noob when it comes to MB and the AMG models. I recently sold a 2008 E90 M3 in hopes of buying an AMG torque monster!! Now that I've started my search what do you think the pro and cons are between the 3 listed?

E55 is now almost 10 years old. Spending that kind of money should I just spend the extra and go with a more modern C63 or E63?

What are the things to consider/look for if I do go with an E55?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Depending on what your goals are

04-06 E55 could be had anywhere from 14-28 thousand

C63 will be highly likely over 33k

E63 I have no clue regarding but recently I saw some listed over 40k, now that's

the one with new body shape, I think called W212

If you are able to get a E55 for 20k , you can drop the rest 10 grand into it

and make it a Bi-turbo lol (pipe dream) but make it very fast.

So again, what are your goals ? I'd say stay with newer tech and all , for ex

newer E63 or C63 unless you want to mod and what not.

E55 - great car and if you find solid one unmolested 20-22K - can do so much with this car and the tranny is bullet proof - just take a shop and have them do a full look over as it is 8+ years old and there will be lil bugs and best to get them taken care of early on. Even though the car may be $20K now, remember it was a $95K+ car new so the maintenance should be expected of that kind of car -

E63 - 211 minimal interior updates (biggest one i see is more comfortable seats), but that NA motor is really nice - just keeps pulling and pulling and sounds throaty - harder to get big HP gains like the 55K motor

C63 - i have only driven one but own a E55/63 and love the size of the car and looks - the C would be more inline with your M3 - C63 has great style and seats are amazing - only drawback in my opinion is the center stack looks like c300 -

Not one to shy away from mods so that's going to be a given on any car I buy. The ultimate goal is 500-550 HP with 500-600 TQ. Also want something drivable for the wife. So paddle shifting for me and an auto mode for her is looking good as far as AMG goes. I like the idea of the E55 for easy HP gains via pulleys and tunes. Maybe i'd be better off going C63 tune and exhaust?

Budget wise not looking to dump more than 50K. I did find an 04 E55 with only 20,000 miles on it but the guy wants like 33,000 for it

^^^ lol I am not sure about the price but

There is a new fixed clutchless pulley , with a tune and that 77mm pulley alone you'd be

making ~470-490 rwhp. If you put on headers you'd be above and beyond 500 mark. It'll be daily drivable too.

I know. Even KBB suggest low to mid 20's for excellent condition with that mileage.

IMO with the money saved by going with an E55 rather than a c63/E63 you could make the E55 everything you want and more. Even getting the upgraded look that comes with the w211 e63's. Just my .02

C63 with headers, Xpipe, exhaust and a conservative tune is one FAST vehicle.

I own an E55 and love this car to death, but the C63 is looking more and more appealing to me and it's a newer car.

If you have the extra dough, go for the C63, you won't regret. Stick to the 2011+ as the updates and gremlins were worked out from the 09 and 10 cars.

2011+ C63 still like $50K and E55 like $20K ! this is not a good comparison at all. Of course, if money is not issue for you then get the C63.

Not about the money for me they're all bad investments lol. I just want to make sure I don't look back a year from now and say I should've got the other....

Cost doesn't seem to be too much of an issue... I personally love my E55. Comfortable easy ride... But can blow the doors off of almost anything on the street when I want it to. E63 is nice too... But I prefer the 55 engine. The C63 is a nice car for what it is. No one get offended... But it's still a c-class. Ride is on the rough side, interior is a little lacking, and the car itself is a little small for my taste. Find a dealer local to you and drive each one and see what feels good to you. The E55 and E63... You could almost call them identical... Minor changes other than engine and trans... But E-class compared to the C63... Completely different car. The previous owner of my E55 traded the E for a C63 and he wants to buy the E55 back from me... Drive the. And see what drives you

Thanks for the insight going to drive an E55 this weekend. My mom's boyfriend works at MB of Cincinnati so i'll be able to drive the others there.

I would narrow your choices to C63 or E55.

I've had both and loved both of them.

It comes down to what you want from the car.

E55 - Comfortable, luxurious, fast in a straight line bone stock. Modding is nearly endless now with people doing amazing things with these motors. Since its an older model there are more things to go wrong, Airmatic, leaky rear seal, leaky fuel senders and possible cracked pistons (for modded motors, weakest link in the motor). The transmission is dated but yes its a tank for modding, you really dont have to worry too much about it until you start reaching 600whp.

C63 - Nimble, quick, similar to an M3 but with a lot more down low grunt. Handling is comparable to an M3 but the M3 takes twisties a bit easier. The sound of the C63 and the 7G- Transmission is awesome with its rev matching downshifts (MCT in the newer '12+ with faster crisper shifts). Modding game with the C63 is easy to get 500whp, Long tubes, Tune, Filters and Airboxes. If you're looking for more than 500, you'll have to spend a pretty penny with Weistec and grab a supercharger.

Some videos for fun.

Depends on what you're looking for .. E55 is a great cruiser but not agile in corners. Definitely one of the faster more comfortable cars on the road. Going from an M3 ... very different. you really do have to drive each to see which one you like. Even if they were all the same price, I think I would still pick the E55 though ... The new Bi-turbo is very tempting :p

As some have said, it is possible to make these really fast with low impact on the pocket book. I have spent quite a few $$$ in other cars to make them fast. I could have bought 3-4 E55 for what I have in the other cars. Sure they are faster ... but not nearly as streetable or comfortable.

lol , if you are worried about buyer's remorse then just wait 6 months and get a bi-turbo

which I think started in 2012 and you'd never look back.

Only reason I got the E55 was that I'd mod the hell out of it and easier to gain power but

other than the S/C pulley and tune, I didn't do squat to it lol.

I love my E55 but I could've had a newer car if it wasn't for modding. There were good deals on C63 and E63 at that time but I chose this.

Oh and it's good on gas too lol since it doesn't drink much until the S/C engages.

So once again, make sure what your goals are, only power is what you crave? or a newer vehicle with equal power stock per stock less modding capability

is what you can live with ?

I also went from a m3 to e55. I test drove the e63 and c63 before I bought my e55. C63 in my opinion is not as comforable as e55 power is there but after a couple of mods on your e55 you will smoking a c63 and e63. And there's not much you can do with the c63 and e63 engines. E63 was nice when I test drove but for the price I liked e55 better. I have had my e55 for about 5 months now and I've dropped about 6,000 in mods but I'm over 500hp as a daily driver and my sister or my girlfriend drive the car causally. Even with all the money I've spent on mods and plus what I paid for the car I still saved a lot of money rather buying a 63. You will be smoking both e63 and c63 with just a couple of bolt on mods I vote e55

And if you looking for good handling, some people already did coilover conversion with E55. $1.2K in part $1k in labor.

Gonna try and test drive an E55 this weekend or next. Just need to make a time with the seller. Basic idea is 500 hp & 550 tq street beast! Never even driven an AMG car so it should be interesting

My wife is pushing for the newer C63 lol either way good to have her on board She seems to have given into the idea of bavarian built hotrods being in the garage. Can't wait to see her face when I mash the pedal on the 55
