Question Need help for electrical problem

I gave my son my E55 and he just called and told me the dash display in front of the steering wheel is not working. Tachometer and speedometer both digital and arm are not working. Turn signal does not light up or click but does operate front and rear turn signal lights. Car runs normally only problem is the display in front of the steering wheel. Radio works and display by radio works.

I am thinking it is a fuse or fuses. Does this sound right? Can someone tell me where the fuse box is and how my son can determine which fuse needs to be replaced and how to replace the fuse. Also, what type of fuse or fuses should he get.

Thanks. This forum has always been a great help with problems like this.

Sounds like it could be a central gateway issue. Its located above the driver's side underdash panel. check fuses on the far driver's side of the dash (open the driver's door, and pop the panel off the side of the dash.) there are also fuses in the rear sam (located inside the trunk on the left side). And there is also a fuse box located on the driver's side of the engine bay near the firewall. Check the fuses on the driver's side of the dash first. Then remove the driver's side under dash panel and check the central gateway for water/ corrosion (its a known issue).

I find it convenient to convert to the new style fuses with a built in LED indicator which light if the fuse is blown.

Here is an example:

+1, cost me about $40 to switch to LED fuses, but well worth it. And is your car displaying a display malfunction error?
