Unhappy Another air suspension failure thread

Hi guys.

Just got into my first benz, an 08 E63 with 73k miles. Can't say enough about the power/torque, i'm too busy smiling!

But..

I've had it a few weeks, came out of my office yesterday and the rear is slammed down over the wheels - both sides the same. Common problem from what I read here, but looking for a bit of advice before I start getting parts shipped from the US to here.

I will get Arnott replacements, but would like some input on whether to stay with the air system or switch to coils.

What are the chances of the compressor and front struts being on the way out at present? When I start in the morning, the compressor seems to run for about 10-15 seconds. The front seems perfectly fine at the moment.

If I switch to coils the kit will cost $1599, and no further worries, while if I start replacing the air system and have to replace all struts and the compressor it will cost ~$2200, plus potential future replacements.

Any advice would be great!

Depending if you want to retain the smooth comfortable ride than do the air, or go with coils if that doesn't matter to you. I personally prefer the smooth ride and the convenience of raising it and dropping it at the touch of a button. My front right went out not to long ago, I went ahead and swapped both fronts with lifetime warranty through ARNOTT at a great price.
good luck and enjoy it, dont let that scare you lol

Thumbs up Problem solved

As an update on the original problem, after reading through a few threads here I started to suspect the single rear ride height sensor might be playing up, seeing as both sides dropped at the same time.

Got underneath for a look, and found the sensor linkage had come off the nipple which it pivots on, which is just above the left reservoir.

So I was considering spending big bucks, and the problem was a $%&ing 50 cent plastic retainer.

Got it back on and ride height is normal again, but will have to take it to someone to replace the retainer or it will slip off again soon.

Think if the system actually failed, I would go the Arnott coil setup. Roads here in the UAE are smooth and potholes are pretty much unknown, so I can live without the extra comfort of the air setup.

Thanks everyone who looked and commented.
