ASK: what is your preferred tyres brand ?

I have said it a million tmes on this board "Friends don't let friends buy Michelins"
Over priced, oever rated.
Go to a track event and look what real racer's use.
Think Bridgestone here, or for that matter MOST tires that have a 140 treadware. WHY you ask, becuase that is what is legal in the SCCA for stock class. As such, many tire brands are making tires for this reason.
Note: They will not last that long, but my Bridgestone 030 PP's, were the funnest 10K mile I ever had on the street.
But please, Michelins are a decent tire, just don't fall into the hype.

I like nito 555`s on front and invos or nto5 on the back. Good price, since I burn them off quick and decent traction. Invos last a longer than the nt05`s but nt05`s hook better. I used to run mid 11`s using invos 5 years ago , when I only had a pulley/tune/cooling on the car back then.

Hell, I even had 2 years on my 555's with doing MANY 1.9 60' times.

Maybe you overlooked the fact that many do not use their cars at the track, if you want gum sticky low mileage tires then go ahead. 140 rating ha ha and as for Bridgestone they are just Firestone rebranded, would never run a Firestone, not even on a toy wagon. IMO

Besides, I would put a Nitto NT05 or Bridgestone Potenza 11, or 11A, against Michelins ANY day of the week.
And just for a reference I used Kumho Victoraceers on my stang with only a 60 treadware. A Couple of track days and autocross, and about 1K, but oh the fum.
May I suggest a retread for you that is as hard as a birck

That is the question!
Not my question but from another forum user.
As far as the other name drops for tire manufacturer's I personally do not care.

I've used a lot of different tires and I currently use the Continental Extreme DW. Had two sets of PSS before these and I have to say the Extreme DW is nearly on par and for the price I will give up the 5% of dry performance. I would say they are as good if not better in the rain than the PSS. Lastly considering how quickly I go through rear tires the DW's are the choice for me

Im on my 3rd set of 19" nto5s. I only get 7k or so out of a set and they are loud as hell but the cornering and braking characteristics on this tire are excellent.

Im in Germany since i was born and we consider "Michelin" to be the best brand of tires down here.
They are mostly also the most expensive ones and dont last as long as other brands tires do, but all attributes of Michelin tires are "the creme de la creme".
Obviously "drag racing or 1/4mile race" was not taken into account here, as its something uncommon in europe.

Ive had my hankooks for about a year now. They were great at first, now they just suck. Don't grip for ****. Don't even like driving the car in the rain. Not even getting on it, the traction light flickers at least several times in my 5 mile drive to work....Trying to figure out what to get next.

May want to consider Yokohama Advan - I previously ran Michelin PSS, tread wear was more severe compared to Yokos, plus PSS always seemed less assured in the wet.

Michelins...
don't buy them unless you want 1) the smoothest, silkiest ride quality, 2) the least amount of motion in your steering wheel (most compliant), 3) no radial pull (caveat, jury is still out on a/s3), 4) 5 minutes of framming around while the flat spot smooths out after sitting in the garage.
If none of this bothers you, cool, most all the others will do. And yes, they are certainly cheaper. After driving and modifying Mercedes cars for over 30 years, I just don't have the time or patience for the others. The others are ok, but these cars just like michelins better. Go ahead, flame on.

Some of the newer Hankooks have my eye. I wanted them on the wifes GL, but the nittos were just right. I forget the model, but Hankook has a really cool raceing tire, NOT R TYPE for those that don't get it, but a really good looking street tire. I'll post the model when I get home.

1. The most expensive tire you can find.
2. One of the fastest wearing tires you can find.
3. One of the most OVER rated tires.
Enjoy the hype, as you have obviously bought into it, hook line and sinker

I'm on my third brand of tires on this car. The PSS have had the most even wear, the smoothest ride, and by far the best traction. I'm at 8,000 miles on this set and the fronts are showing very even wear and are nowhere close to the wear bars. I got 12,000 miles out of my last set and they were showing cords on the inside. I had the rear Michelins replaced at 7,000 miles as they were just getting to the wear bars and the 30,000 tread life warranty means I had a new set of rear tires mounted and balanced for $250. Tire wear was nice and even, just like the fronts, and I am impressed that I got that much life out of them as I am not gentle on the rear tires.
There's a reason Ferrari is using the Michelin PSS tires on their FF, 599 GTO, and F12 Berlinetta and BMW uses them on their M cars and it isn't because they bought into "the hype". These are really good tires, especially on our cars, and I will be using them again.

Not an AMG guy but Michelins, all Michelins... pilot super sports for the summer months ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Another tire that has interested me for maybe a cheap track tire on a project car is the Vredestein Ultrac Sessenta.

Last time I checked...
nearly all of the worlds finest performance cars use Michelin tires. That's good enough for me. And yes, I am enjoying the hype. I find that as busy as I am in life, I rarely regret buying the best. Don't confuse "price" with "cost". They are two different things. As another poster just pointed out, the "price" is a little more initially, but long term, the "cost" may be less.

I think people don't realize the application here... of course Michelins will not compare to purpose-designed drag radials or track semi-slicks. However the Pilot Sport Cup is a brilliant track tire from what I understand if a little pricey like all Michelins. Look at their ratings though, by most independent testers they score at the top of their ratings in each category whether it is grand touring or ultra high performance summer. The Pilot Super Sport is a legend and hasn't been around for that long. Why do you think Ferrari and Bugatti now use Michelins as OEM on some of their cars, it's because they're excellent tires.

Have you actually ran the Pilot SuperSport tires on your car? I'm suspecting you haven't as the "hype" you talk about is what I would call "the real deal".

On a serious note, must Porsche drivers swich out their PS3's for track days at Beaverrun. Most of them do not go back as well.
I am just saying to keep an open mind as there are other tires out there that work great, at a better price, and traction is equal or suprior.
That is all
PS: You do know that car manufacturese get incentives from tire companies for their use, don't you?
