E55 Shifting question
Hey, guys i have an 04 e55 & recently I've realized that the car is taking too long to upshift... if i drive normally everything is fine it shifts normal but when ever i floor it it takes each gear too 6500 or 6800 rpm almost as if it is going to redline or not shift which is really scary. i want to know if this is a common problem, easy fix or should i be worried. Right before this started happen my alternator went and the car battery was disconnected for about a day & a half, im not sue if this would have anything to do with the issue.![nix](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/nixweiss.gif)
Thanks guys & happy holidays.

when did the car have its trans fluid changed last? my 55 was sometimes holding the gear to long as well. did trans fluid flush, and filter change. car now shifts when its suppose to in S, and when in manual mode as soon a hit the paddle or shifter it shifts. Before i would shift up and the trans would shift when it felt like it, not when it should.

not quite sure is a simple battery disconnect is going to solve your problem. I took some screen shots of DAS and you will see how in dept the procedure is to perform the adaptions.

If your ECU had be retuned the higher shift point may have been changed. My present tune shifts at 6,800 rpm.

There is a $2 rubber bushing that often gets worn out and even falls out. It sits in the lever from the transmission to the rod that connected eventually to the shift lever. In fact there are two bushing that you will see but the one at the transmission lever on the side of the transmission housing is the one that wears the most. This should be checked and replaced since it tightens up the free play that you may not realize you have in the shifter assembly. To get to this bushing, you have to get under the car and slide you hands up and release the clip, then slide in the new rubber bushing on the side of the transmission housing.

It could well be. I know it fixed a problem down-shifting using paddle shifting on a E55 where the actual shifter worked but not the paddle shift. After the bushing was changed the paddle shift worked perfectly.
It's a quick and cheap fix that needs to be done anyway.
On my S55 the bushing was so worn out it was missing all together and had fell out but I never had a shifting problem, just a loose shifter that is now nice and firm.
