W210 E55 comparison tests/mags
Hey I was wondering if any of you have the following magazines and if you can tell me what issue it is (i.e. month/year).
I had these mags but my wife was cleaning the house and decided that my mags were old and decided to junk them.
I went to find them the other day and wtf..they weren't there??!
I had the following:
Motor Trend Magazine: Test drive to I believe Arizona or something like that comparing the W210 E55, M5, 911, XKR, DB7. I really miss this mag as this was the fastest times that I've seen mags post for my car (E55). I believe it was something like 0-60 in 4.7secs and 1/4 in 13.3 at some really fast speed. It also showed 100mph in around 11.8 secs.
Road and Track: M5 vs. E55 Fastest sedan comparo. It showcased the W210 E55 in Brilliant Silver with ruby/charcoal interior. The end result of the test was that the test drivers at R&T thought that the E55 handled better than they thought (they thought the M5 was going to blow the E55 away). Same mag had a comparo test with CL500, 456GT, XKR and some other car.
Automobile Magazine: Early test/comparison between W211 E55, RS6, M5 and Jag.
Car magazine: Comparo between M3, TVR Tuscan, Skyline GTR, 911 and another car. I really liked the pics in this mag.
Motor Trend: Road test (on another trip) M5 vs. Corvette (regular one), CLK55, Jag XKR.
Car Magazine: Ferrari Enzo vs. McLaren F1. I believe it also had the Maybach first drive on there too.
Automobile Magazine: Showcasing 55 AMG's: E55, S55, CL55, CLK55 (it was before the current SL55 was introduced). It also had a comparo of the Z8 vs. 360 Modena and a comparo of the SLK32vs. C32.

MotorTrend did 3 tests of the "classic" E55 - June '99, Mar. '00, and April '02. I'm not sure if you're after the '99 test or '00 test. Both tested 0-60 at 4.8 secs and 1/4 mile at 13.3. The '02 test resulted in 0-60 in 4.99 secs.
The Road and Track issue is March 2000. R&T, MT, and C&D all tested the face lifted '00 E55 in Mar. '00, but this one was my favorite article. Perhaps because the test car looks just like mine.
But also because it was one of the few tests where the reviewers actually liked the handling of the E55 over the M5. They stated it had better balance with less understeer, and as a result the E55 carried greater speeds during turns at Willows race track. The M5 and E55 were ranked basically even. But the nod went to the M5 with 94.4 points, while the E55 had 94.3 points, just 0.1 points between 'em. R&T editor Sam Mitani went with the E55 as his personal pick.The Automobile mag issue you're looking for is the Dec. 02 issue. Nice photos, but I hated that article. Perhaps others can help with the rest of the mags you lost. That's one reason I NEVER let my wife near my car mag collection!

Sports Car magazine also had a very very nice article about the W210 E55, its a very high quality car magazine that only comes one once every two months. i can scan the article in about a week if anyone is interested

I have read all of the articles (I have had subsriction to all those magazines above for like 4 years at least). and here is the general concensus....
Pre- E39 M5 US release: E55 was the ultimate 4 door sedan, some said it was the most perfect 4 door sedan ever made, all the articles before the E39 release had NOTHING bad to say about the car.
After M5 release: E55 was still a very good car but everyone was buzzing about the M5 and etc so people naturally started to critic the E55 saying it was not as good as the M5.
Overall, people forget that at one point E55 was the best 4 door sedan on the planet. Its still an absolutely amazing car and I would take one over M5 anyday of the week (especially since they are ALOT cheaper used for a newer car with lower miles). I have yet to drive one but i hear very good things. hope that helps.

BTW, current issue has the new E55 vs. RS6. The new E55 wins. But there's also an editorial in the magazine that talks about the crazy HP war that German car makers are now waging. They credit the W210 E55 for starting it all back in '98 when it was released in Europe and was then King of the hill.
