Command gone pop....

Ok so my command has gone pop and what I thought was covered under my aftermarket warranty, only bought the car 2 months ago , isn't covered.

So I am now in an urgent need to either replace this Command unit or go after market.

Just wanted anyone's opinion who has anything to say on it, what would you do ?

I am budgeting around say $1000-$1500 to replace whatever needs replacing.

Thanks all

Before replacing anything try doing a hard reset. Unplug the command unit and the audio gateway on the left side of the trunk. Sometimes you get lucky and they start working again.

Most likely it's the amp/agw (audio gateway) that went bad in the trunk.

I was told on here its a bad Canbus !! No idea what that is myself.

If it's an easy fix then I'll give it a go, if not and it's expensive then I am just thinking to replace and get something with everything , Bluetooth, a decent Nav etc etc.

Appreciate the help and comments all.

Thanks, so I tried looking in the back on the left, there is a removable panel and when I undo that I see a CD player, guessing that's the Nav unit, an empty slot above that looks like it could house another unit but it's empty and then a small black unit maybe 3/4 inch high 4 inches long with a couple of cables plugging into it.. Is this it ?

Thanks in advance ..

Read this:

Better than me explaining "can bus" myself and yes the black box is it!

The audio gateway is behind and slightly forward of the fusebox. It's tucked behind and above the steel inner fender structure. This pic is a wagon but will look about the same. You'll need to pull the whole unit out because the main power connector is on the forward side. Also be sure not to kink the orange cables. There fiber optic.

Another question please, so if I decide to replace with a new head unit, can I reuse all the speakers etc, ie do not have to replace them as well, what do I have to replace and what can be left in ?

Thanks

Get it on a DAS .. it'll tell you if CAN is an issue or which module is having the problem. It'll take 5 minutes and you don't have to unplug anything. I agree it is more likely an Audio Gateway issue, but no harm in confirming with a Diagnostic tool first

So I have been told it's the Audio Gateway that has gone, lots of errors. Any ideas where I can get a replacement ? I have checked Ebay and there are some there but each one states it's for an E350 or E550 not an E63..

Any advice ?

Thanks

PM me your VIN and I'll get you a part number. What year is your E63. Major change in 2009

Yep he PMed me … Your Amp will work. I'd recommend getting from mertd93, you can be sure it works … although I am surprised a 2008 Amp failed so soon
