Valve cover gaskets replaced, then dash lit up like a Christmas tree!!!!
Tonight I went to pick up my 2005 E55 from my mechanic. I had both valve cover gaskets replaced and about 15 miles into the drive home, I noticed the engine was running rough (like it was misfiring) when I came to a stop at the traffic light. By this time, the mechanic's shop was closed and I proceeded to drive the remainder of the way home which was another 10 miles. By the time I got home, the yellow low fuel light next to the gas gauge started to blink, then the dash lit up red indicating that I needed to check my fuel cap. I have to think that the ignition coils and/or plug wires were not properly reattached after the valve covers were replaced. The car also seems to idle high and down shifts abnormally when coming to a stop. All of this happened after the valve cover gaskets were replaced today. Any ideas out there so I can help my indy troubleshoot??
Thanks!
Thanks!

This. Sometimes, the plugs look like they are fully plugged-in but are not. Also check the engine harness plugging into each coil pack.

This can be a coincidence to changing the gaskets but the low fuel indicator blinking and gas cap warning is the indication that either your charcoal canister needs to be changed or the worst thing, change your fuel pumps/senders

This place is a joke.
Purge line left disconnected, or more likely the aluminium tube that slides into the SC inlet. Drivers side rear of valve cover gasket...you cant see it youll have to reach doen there and see if its nit slid into the rubber seal.

I had the same problem recently when I got the valve gaskets replace and it was the hose you all guys talking about disconnected.
Another indicator of hose disconnection is that the power goes down in the car cuz you are losing boost.
It felt like when inter cooler pump stops working lol

Just got back from the garage where I shared the vacuum leak potential issue. That was, in fact the root cause! The tech removed the intake assembly, simply reattached the purge line, cleared the faults, and now it's back to normal. Happier than a hooker on GI payday!
Can't thank you guys enough!

I'm happy too. I'm at 74k miles on the original pumps/ sender and knew it could be the issue too. Glad I get to kick that particular can down the road a bit longer. Thanks for the help Joncl!

Just under $400 for both L and R VCs. Both gaskets were $50. It was covered under warranty so it could have been less if I was paying cash. I'm in NC, so you may need to adjust price given the my market compared to SoCal, NY, or some other high rent geo.
