Bad EIS or bad key?

Bad EIS or bad key?
Hello, seeking some opinions and hopefully previous experience. 2 hours after driving with no issues, the key is no longer being accepted, here are the facts ive observed so far, and I dont have keyless go:
key can lock/unlock over radio
key can lower/raise windows over ir
eis sees that the key is there and turns on the circuit for induction power
eis then turns the circuit off and does nothing else, no turn unlock, no grip of the key, no drive auth, no steering unlock
in das, eis says there is no valid key in place, but does see that a key is inserted
I'm thinking either bad IR receiver in the key, or bad IR in the EIS. Going to order a second key today, need it anyway. Please let me know if you have further suggestions.
