IC pump changed, but ..

Hi all,

I live in a hot area, and few months back, I have experienced drop in power and supercharger not engaging. I knew it is the IC pump from reading here. anyway, the weather started to be cold, so i lived with the bad/weak IC pump for one month more.

1 weeks ago, I changed the IC pump with 010 Bosch.

The problem still exists, high intake air temperature!, yesterday it was cold (20C= 68F), and the Intake air temperature was 190-198 F !

The mechanic did not bleed the system i guess , would it be the problem ? the car is stock.

Thanks.

I used ELM OBDII to check the IAT. Yes it should, i guess i have to recheck it again.

System still has air in it. You need to bleed it

shardul, of course, is spot on.

This exact situation happened to me with my first E55. If you install the IC pump and do not bleed (or properly bleed) the system, the car will be a dog.

Bleed the system again.

A Mercedes tech told me that without the cooling split mod, a couple of days of driving (heat up, cool down, rinse and repeat) will be enough to completely bleed the system. Unless your relay is not responding properly. In that case, replace the relay or keep trying to bleed the system
Now I gotta find out what relay that is and where its located. He stated that they tend to get stuck and when hot and will either leave the pump running all the time (good for power) or shut off for extended periods of time (dog in heat)

Shardul is right, the system needs to be bleed and in theory your tech is right but that's just laziness.

Well you cannot just say that and leave me hanging???
What relay is this and where is the location? Mine is definitely shot cos sometimes I have bountiful power and sometimes I am barely faster than a 335i (108-110mph trap speed).

What else is there to explain?

Bleeding the system takes 5 minutes, not even.

I've bleed the system (15 min, some water and bubles came out), and till the moment the supercharge didn't shutdown.

However, the weather temperature is around 87 F and the IAT is 180 F after few pulls.
Is that normal ?
I read somewhere that the IAT should be 20F degree more than the weather temperature, is that true ?

Thanks

yes that is normal on car with stock cooling and the mentioned ambient conditions.

The car feels faster at lower IAT temperature, when IAT raises , it feels slower so that my friend with W210 E55 is as fast am I. there is lag of supercharge engagement as well.

If I changed the intercooler with EC or PLM, would that make a huge change in IAT temp ?

Thanks

a larger HE would always help plus with the bumper off you can double check the IC pump. I would go with the PLM for ease of install.

Does it require any modification to install it ?

nothing to mod on the PLM one, just bolts to the OE holes and the cooler bolts to it under it. No zip ties like some others to hold it in place.

run the pump to a switched 12v source. I had a similar issue, but I never could get my pump to engage no matter the temp. After installing a bigger heat exchanger and the always on pump, my 1/4mile went from 109mph to 118.5mph. It was a serious bump in cooling efficiency.
