Finally found one in my price range worth buying
Hey everyone, looked at 4 E55's over the last few months and there was always an issue. CEL, IC leak, drivers airbag deployed? - That was a weird one.
But I finally found a very nice one. My wife split and took the family car so I needed something. Found a bare bones E55 for 16K OTD with 107,000 miles, maticulously maintained. Original pouch with maintenance doc's and all of the manual's. 3 small dings on the drivers side rear door. Stitching came loose on a small area on the back seats. Stupid tabs for the center console both broke right after I bought it lol. Drivetrain and suspension work perfect. Hooked it up to DAS and nothing major. I think the IC pump is going because the SC cuts out sometimes. Other than that, perfect, and she's a BEAST.
All stock. My friend called a friend with a BMW Alpina B7. I had 3 people in the car and pulled on him hard until 120, he was a couple to few car lengths back and sort of gaining. It would've taken 150-160 at the pace he was slowly gaining at.
All in all I'm pretty damn happy. One because 100hp per seat is nice for a family car, and 2 because my plan for the last 6 months has been this motor in the crossfire with the 6-speed manual. If it doesn't destroy that transmission I can't imagine how fast it will be.
Oh and I got my first ticket already. Haven't been pulled over in years and they got me for an unsafe start because I was testing/loving the fact that traction control doesn't step in AT ALL compared to SLK's lol. Thank goodness I let off at the speed limit. He did congratulate me on the burn out though lol. It was nice.
Anyway enough with my happy ranting, here are some pics:

Congrats on the car.....
You made me laugh with your comments that ESP isn't very invasive though.....
Turn off the ESP on the dash and try that launch again, tell me if you notice a difference.
If that doesn't scare you enough, search for the "Dyno Mode" easter egg, and put your car in that mode for a few miles..... that one is terrifying, even with a completely stock E55.
Replace the I/C pump with the Bosch "010" version. There's a lot of extra power available from just getting your cooling issues under control.
Be forewarned, no matter how much power you have....eventually you'll get used to it, and you'll find yourself wanting more.

Thanks man!
I did turn off the ESP lol. That's what I'm talking about. If you turn off ESP it's still active to a point on Mercedes, on the SLK's it will kill ANY fun you try to have... This thing? Not so much.
Dyno mode will have to wait lol, at least for this ticket to blow over.
Wasn't there talk of the Johnson? I want to say C30 or something like that? Which should I go with?
Yep, I already have a tune I could drop on that could liven it up a bit, but I think I will do reliability mods for now. The real mods will start when I pick up a 55K engine for my xfire. I might mod this one someday but it's not really a good starting ground. 4200 lbs can't compete with 3000 even. Maybe 3100 with the 55 motor, H/E, IC, SC and plumbing. We'll see.

Looks like a clean example of a fairly rare color, you will certainly enjoy it. I love mine and still can't think of another car in its price bracket (<$20K) that would serve as a proper replacement. I personally love the ESP when switched off, it allows just enough slack to get it loose before you put it in a ditch lol

When you can buy an 11 year old car and whoop on brand new $100,000 cars for under $20K, it's impressive. Gotta love German depreciation. I have no desire to sell so it can plumet in price as much as it wants, i'll just buy another lol.
ESP off just shocks me. Everyone complains about how intrusive it is but like I said, you have no clue until you drive an SLK320, even with an SL500 5.0 in it... It will not allow any slip what so ever. This actually allows burn-out's and slide's.

This is how my E55 started, 8 months later I have tint, rear CF spoiler, front CF lip, Continental DWS tires, two front Arnott struts, HID fogs, White LED city lights, flat hood emblem, painted front grille, K&N drop ins and figuring out the install of my JL sub to replace the factory sub.
A few issues, SC clutch is squeaking, rear "CLUNK" sub frame bolt, AGW failed, trunk latch sticks. Other than those items...I'M STOKED to be the owner of this awesome beast!
Congrats on the purchase!

[QUOTE=G_Money;5976633]Yep, Black Opal Metallic, just like mine! I forget the color code off the top of my head though. I've only seen 2 others (including yours) and they were both on here!
Funny that your dealer called it midnight blue. What color is the car registered as? Mine is registered as gray funnily enough!

Not sure what the registration says, it hasn't come in yet and I never looked at the temparary taped to the window.

Congrats on the car. Can you take more pics? The indoor ones don't do it justice and the outdoor ones are too dark. It takes a lot of discipline to be on these forums and not mod.

I could definitely see that. Beautiful color.
I'm sure that would be fun as hell. I guess I'm saying that I'll likely mod it, it just won't be any time soon. The other beast will get this motor and modded first. Imagine your 10 second 55, but only weighing 3100 lbs and a stick
Thanks!
Sure! I'll get some today and put them up.

I can imagine. A friend of mine has a crossfire with a SL55 engine that runs 10s. I've also had the opportunity to drive it on the street and the track. You'll love it!

Jim's is why I want to do it. I recently did the ECU work for a guy in Texas for a swap identical to Jim's. In my playing around I figured out how to make a manual work with it so that's what I'm going to do lol. I'll probably blow this trans but I'll just go with the getrag 5 speed manual if need be. Could you imagine that motor without the parasitic loss of an auto?? That things going to fly!
