Just picked up an E55!
After searching for about a month and going back and forth between W210/W211 and W220/W221 I settled on the W211. It's a 2005 E55 w/112k, documented dealership history, squeaky clean carfax and up to date maintenance including new brakes, all switches working, good tires, great paint, great interior, in the color I (and more importantly) my wife wanted. Thanks to everyone for for the input on this forum which helped me make the best decision - for me.

Congrats on the E55!
That 911 in your garage is going to feel pretty pointless before too much longer. I drove an '89 Carrera for many years before moving over to the E55. 217HP doesn't compare well against 469HP.... I really liked driving the 911, but the comfort and power of the E55 was a huge upgrade for me.

Comforting to see that people are still buying higher mileage examples instead of always aiming for the 30K-mile garage queens. Let the modding begin

Thanks! I'd like to think that at 112k this car is just now getting broken in. Am I wrong to think that these engines are any less reliable than their standard model counterparts? Maybe more reliable even? I am comfortable working on cars - that is for sure. This car doesn't really scare me as far as 'breaking down' goes. Why, because I do not take my cars to the dealership to get worked on. I do it myself. I did get a good look at the car from underneath before I bought it. I spied a little oil coming from the rear corner of the passenger side valve cover. Nothing bad, or what i would consider abnormal for a car of this age or mileage. The driver side was totally clean. I'm actually looking forward to changing it and will be doing a little recon on the forum for better insight. I glanced over a post that made it out to be pretty basic, quick and inexpensive - like less than $50.

Leaking valve covers are a common (and rather frequent) issue on the M113K motors....
If you're willing to roll up your sleeves, the DIY archive here should allow you to do just about anything service-related you would ever want. If you make the financial commitment of buying a STAR/DAS diagnostic setup, you will become virtually unstoppable.
