Value of our beasts in going in to the future?
I was reading something recently about how E30 M3s have been drastically increasing in price, and it got me to thinking about our cars. Now I know they aren't quite the same, the E30 (well really the 190E) was a milestone car.
But still, got me wondering. Is the ~15k range the low water mark for our vehicles? the prices seem not to have changed that much over the last couple years. What about appreciation? Do any of you think the E55/63 will be a "collector car" commanding higher prices that what they can currently be found for?
I certainly did not buy my E as an investment piece or anything, but it's fun to think about and I would love to know what you guys think about it.

I'm still kicking myself for not picking up an E30 M3 when I had the chance a few years ago. I don't see the E55's getting much lower then the $12k mark but I don't think they will go up in value. My E46 M3 has held it's value pretty well especially since it's a coupe 6speed I can get almost as much as I paid for it back in 2007.

This place is a joke.
Look no further than the 210 chassis E55. Can be had around 7k or less, but they seem to have bottomed there. They are also getting harder to find (clean) ones, so that has stabilized the price I think. If they hold that value I would expect ours, being the "newer" version to hang maybe around 10k.

I'm kicking my self still up to now. I had a 1990 E30 M3 . Had it for 14 years and sold it about 4 years ago. I sold it for a little bit more than what I bought it for. But never got back what I put in it. It was a sweet ride. really miss her. If I would of known that it would of gone up in price I would of kept it. There going for big bucks now. They only made about 5000 that made it to the US between 89-91 so they aren't to many left around anymore. That's why there going up in price. not sure how many E55 were made but maybe if they weren't to many out there they may be worth something later.

the E55 was a game changer for Mercedes and AMG... I certainly see it being a little bit more valuable... Maybe E46M3 or E39M5 territory? Def not E30 M3 territory. Most will hold a certain value and some clean ones with a good history will be worth a premium. I doubt as a whole theyre going to go up in value, except in maybe 30 or 40 years?

I don't know that it will ever increase in value, but once we get through what I call the "E55 ricer period" the prices for the cars that survive should hold value pretty well.
Steep depreciation is attracting a lot of young clowns to the E55 lately, so the really scruffy "5 & 6 owner cars" are going to get bought-up. They'll be modified, hacked & brutalized with cheap parts, and dubious "styling improvements" until they finally either crash and get totaled, or blow motors and get parted-out.
If we can all stay calm.... that awkward period will eventually end and the cars that survive will the that much more rare and exclusive, and the one's that have been lovingly maintained should still be worth decent money.
Of course, if it all goes to hell and the E55 demographic ends up overrun by young punks permanently, the rest of us will have no choice by to move into the M157-based machines (2012+) to escape them. I continue to watch the used-car prices on those models as my contingency plan..... probably in another 12-18 months they will be cheap enough to make the switch (but still expensive enough to keep the riff-raff out for a few more years!). LOL

LMAO G, you've got the situation in perspective for sure. Similar to the IROC Z/GTA..They used to be everywhere..most have been driven and modified into the ground and the intact survivors are already collectible. The ricer 55's will help thin out the herd so in time the original looking clean cars will be collectible. Another reason why I won't do a 63 front end on mine.

i think it'd be worth $10k+ if i held.
bottom line, 2 doors and cabs seem to hold up better. heck, even 199-95 500Es have a hard time getting more than $10k-ish.

E55 Wagon | C126 | S210
Same thing happened with the car I've had ten of: E36 M3's. They were still relatively pricey ten years ago when I got my first one ($23k) now they're all stance mobiles with 150k miles worth $6-7k. But the clean, one-two owner examples around 100k miles are very rare and will fetch $10-13k. I think the 211 AMG's will be the same; give it five or six more years and the lower-mileage, clean ones with records will be worth twice the price of the crap sitting on Autotrader.

The E55, in my opinion, will never stop dropping. To be honest, car is getting dated somewhat, every 19 year old can afford it or their parents are willing since the prices have dropped...the car won't stop.
You want a collectible? Own a BMW M Coupe. I purchased my Garage Queen the summer of 2009 from the original owner who was cleaning out one of his collection garages (very wealthy retired man down in Georgia). I purchased the car for $22,600 and I am getting offers for $35K+ from collectors. I will NEVER sell this car.
The car literally still smells brand new.
It's a 2000 Sunroof delete, Imola Red on Imola/Black interior, 5spd.
22400 original miles.
1 of 9 in this color combo with sunroof delete for the year 2000 in all US states.
This IS my pride and joy and I only drive on perfect, clear sky days. The amount of stares and waves and awe-looks I get is amazing. My 3-year old absolutely loves the car, it's like driving a go kart on the streets
Here are a few pics the day I purchased her and drove her for the first time, love this car.

There were too many W211 AMGs produced for the prices to go up. Now, wagons on the other hand...
And don't get me started on air-cooled Porsche prices. The 964 C4 and RS America I owned years ago I could sell for double what I sold for then. And the 993 C4S I sold last year could easily bring me $10K more this year.
But at the end of the day it's all about enjoyment. You can treat your car as an investment but where is the fun in that? They were made to be driven.

i asked tihs same question years ago - i'd be suprised to see any AMG cars going cross the auction block at Mecum or Barrett-Jackson in the next 10 years - once in while you see a P-Car or VW Bus - LOL
i keep my wagon as long as possible - but im at 70K miles and enjoying every one of them on that 6.3
so when i get bored of it, im guessing no one will want it -

IMO, our car wont keep value no matter what mileage. Too many was produced as others has mentioned and also too many models with same engine. SL55, S55, CL55, CLS55, E55. Plus, the newer AMG 55TT also mass production with AWD. Any new AMG version can out perform our car and they all in mass production. Talking about not driving enough.... I drove my car 20K miles in the last 5 years (I have W210 too). Also I see a ton of C63 for sale.
