Oh No, Tire Tread Wire Post :)
Hi guys,
Don't barf, but yet another discussion on tires.
I have had two sets of Michelin Pilot Sport SP2's on the rear, and the first pair lasted 4000 miles, my new ones are 3000 miles. I've read of some folks getting 10,000 miles out of them, and honestly, I don't drag race.
I had Yokahama S line last time and they did maybe 8000 miles.
So I'm now trying to decide based on reviews from other members in the forum.
1) Nitto Motivo
2) Hankook Ventus V12
I'm looking for decent performance and at least 10,000 miles tread wear in "normal" driving, I can't afford 3 sets of tires a year
Any other recommendations of tread wear / performance or anyone else think there is something wrong with my car burning up SP2's in 4000 miles or less ?
Cheers
Grant

I personally would go with some extreme contact DW's. I've had them on my c55 and c32 and love them. You'd get more out of them as well with going from a 220 threadwear to a 340, which is higher than both the nittos and hankooks.

Nitto Invos have been the only tire that has worn evenly on my CLS55. I got just under 10k miles on the rear, lowered with some mods. Probably could have gone a couple thousand more but they were getting sloppy in the rain.
I currently have the Conti Extreme DW. I will be going back to Invo after these wear out.

I don't think I'm lowered, never measured the ride height and got the car used. I know the front has cupping issues but I think that's worn suspension.

Something has to be off, I've put about 8k miles on the 55's PS2's and the rears still look great, but I don't spin the tires much...
Just put a set of Nitto Motivos on the 350 and I like them so far, we'll see how they hold up with their supposed 60k mi rating...

The tires have a strange radial pull. Car was aligned, balanced and tires even swapped side to side. Also, the grip is only average at best.
For someone who doesn't care about performance I think they would work great but they aren't very sticky. Maybe it was just my set but I've never had the radial pull with any other tire.
The Invos were absolutely silent even when worn down and the grip was very good for a street tire.

I would advise against Invos, especially if you are running larger wheels. I went through two sets of Invos because the sides kept bruising and forming bubbles. Been with the PS2s ever since and have yet to see another bruise.

Pilot Super Sport = best tire on planet earth for tire wear and handling 2nd for less cash would be Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position.. Invos burn quick and Hankook v12's I would not waste money on soft side wall, spongy and are bald before you know it. The UTQG rating on tires is pretty accurate so use it as a guide for tread wear concerns... I am slammed and in socal so no rain or snow info to speak of. Hope this helps.
