07 E63 observation vs. 06 CLK55 Cab

Hi all,

It's been 2 weeks I got my E63.
Overall, it's a great car and I love driving it, but I wanted to share a few observations, especially vs. my 06 CLK55 Cab with 362hp.

First, the airmatic ride is softer but it also isn't quite as tight as the CLK's traditional springs and shocks set up. Not sure how much of the handling differences is due to smaller coupe vs. sedan, but the steering ratio and nimbleness is superior on CLK.

Next, the CLK55 seems to have a firmer brake pedal pressure response. Perhaps others can chime in, but the first inches of travel on E63 brake appears to have relatively smaller effect vs the CLK. Could that be from the need to bleed brake line and/or flush fluid?

Lastly, there appears to be more grunt/power from CLK at lower rpm than E63, and CLK's 5 speed appears more lively and downshifts quicker, responding faster to my foot pressure on the gas - should I reset ECU?

Btw, I don't want people to think I don't like E63 because I really do. I think the 7 speed paddle is better, the engine revs really nicely, especially at higher rpm, and it's clearly more spacious. I mainly wanted to share thoughts and see if anyone has feedback on whether I can make the brake feel and the transmission responsiveness resemble more like the CLK55.

This is a fantastic forum, and thanks all in advance for feedback.

PL

Have you reset the trans adaptives to get rid of any learned laziness?

I'd do the above and reset the TCU. On my 63 the pedal is waaaay more responsive than my c55. There could be an issue with that as well. I'd check your pads and see when the last time they were changed(if you have the service history) if the pedal doesn't slowly go down with pressure I doubt it's air in the lines.

Thx for thoughts.
When I got a PPI on pads and I think it was at 6-7mm, so I think that's ok.
From the comparison, it just seemed like the CLK's brake pressure was firm and gradual whereas the E63 was lighter in the beginning, and then it "grabbed" mid-way through the brake pressure(where it becomes similar in feel to CLK55).
I will brakes again and see if I can do a better job describing it.

Whoo whee...feels like a new car with extra 100 lb ft of torque. Haven't tried to downshift blip yet, but certainly this reset was the right move!
